Be Part of Something Special. Be Part of Team Beatson.

Team Beatson is looking for an exceptional individual with a demonstrable track record in high-value fundraising and a deep passion and belief in the power of philanthropy to make extraordinary and otherwise impossible things happen.

Beatson Cancer Charity is dedicated to ensuring people diagnosed with cancer in the West of Scotland receive the very best care and treatment possible. The charity has soared since our launch in 2014. Our services are treasured by Beatson patients and their families while the relevance and urgency of our mission resonates strongly with donors across Scotland and the UK.

We are planning a succession of ambitious initiatives to bring world-class capabilities to the Beatson and add a margin of excellence to the already outstanding work of our clinicians.

The charity already benefits enormously from fantastic Community, Corporate, Event, and Individual Giving fundraising and is growing a skilful and passionate Philanthropy team to inspire high-value donors with our vision. Operating at the intersection of traditional charity, clinical care and academic research, this team secures investments across our five philanthropic themes: Life-saving Research, Transformational Technology, Clinical Excellence, Patient Wellbeing, and Practical Care and Comfort.

The role

Our philanthropy approach recognises the close synergies and inter-relationships between all high-value donor fundraising streams and unites traditional disciplines in a progressive and integrated manner where the major donor discipline is the overarching methodology.

The role may appeal to a Foundations or Grant-seeker specialist who wishes to take their already advanced skills to the next level by developing the ability and confidence to artfully work with major donors and senior volunteers. Equally it could appeal to a Major Donor specialist who wishes to hone their skills in working with institutional grant-makers and developing compelling funding proposals.

Minimum requirements for the post holder:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Commitment to the aims of the Beatson Cancer Charity and to meeting the needs of people affected by cancer.
  • Demonstrable track record of success in fundraising from foundations and other grantmakers and/or securing gifts from individuals.
  • The skill and confidence to artfully ask people for money.
  • A relentlessly positive, driven and professional manner.
  • Membership of the Institute of Fundraising.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Scottish and wider UK grant-making sector
  • Experience of relationship management: corporates, charitable trusts, grant-makers and high net worth individuals.
  • Flexibility with regard to own role and contribution to organisation.
  • Understanding of the Fundraising Codes of Practice as defined by the Institute of Fundraising.
  • Understanding of legislation and regulations as they apply to fundraising and associated activities eg HR, Health and Safety and Environmental Health.
