Business Development Officer

Tweeddale Youth Action (TYA) is the lead organisation for youth-work provision in Tweeddale. We offer 10-25 year-old young people living in Peebles, Innerleithen and the surrounding areas, a safe alternative to hanging around bus stops and street corners. Through our youth clubs in Peebles and Innerleithen we aim to provide relevant and meaningful activities in a fun and secure environment.

Over the past 6 years, TYA has been working towards sustainability and reducing our dependence on grant funding through enterprise and income generation. To help achieve our ambition we are recruiting a Business Development Officer to capitalise on the resources we have and help us grow our business related income for the future. This will include the preparation of funding bids.

As Tweeddale Youth Action’s Business Development Officer you will develop and implement our business plan, capitalising on existing business opportunities and resources. You will identify future business opportunities and develop strategies to support the recruitment of key staff to generate revenue that supports TYA’s youth work goals.

You will generate and manage your own workload and for the right candidate, this role will be varied, fulfilling and rewarding.

Person specification

You will have a business background and experience of writing and implementing business plans.

You will be a self-starter, able to work under your own initiative but also able to work in collaboration with existing TYA staff as well as managing and supporting a small team. You will also have:

  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills – proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook packages.
  • Experience and understanding of third sector funding and social enterprise, including preparing funding bids, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of promotion and marketing.
  • Experience of digital platforms, selling online and digital services as well as products through an online portal.
  • Experience of engaging stakeholders and generating business opportunities.
  • A full driving license and access to a car.
