Our new S.M.I.L.E Counselling Team Leader will lead and support the successful delivery and evaluation of our high-quality therapeutic counselling and support services, following the S.M.I.L.E Counselling service delivery framework and in line with BACP/COSCA (or equivalent) ethical frameworks and codes of practice. If you are not a member of BACP/COSCA you must be willing to complete the BACP proficiency.
This post involves delivering a counselling service across a number of Primary and High schools in West Lothian. The service is a bespoke service for young people 11-24 and will cater to the client needs. The post holder will also be expected to maintain supporting systems for the counselling service, including confidential record keeping, recording and producing statistical information, and evaluating the counselling within an outcome based framework
It is anticipated the post holder will primarily concentrate on delivering counselling to young people but will also provide some awareness raising training with staff.
S.M.I.L.E. Counselling has been providing a free counselling service to the Children and Young People of West Lothian over the last 6 years. Each year has been met with an increasing demand for our services and there has been no exception during the pandemic. Concentrating on the Scottish Government guidelines approaching the major lockdown months our Board of Trustees proactively worked with our Founder/CEO to develop a strategy ensuring that access to a therapeutic counselling service could continue particularly as we anticipated other services temporarily closing.
We have also been developing and expanding our self-funding and Training framework.
Of course, Young People are continuing to encounter mental well-being challenges, and the lifting of the lockdown restrictions has only highlighted the importance of the work our Board, Management, Counsellors, Trainers and Volunteers do.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to join our Schools Counselling Team, delivering counselling in one, or two, Secondary Schools within West Lothian where S.M.I.L.E Counselling has established working relationships. The post holder will work with young persons from S1-S6 year groups providing a bespoke service to meet the individual client therapeutic needs. The post holder will also be expected to maintain supporting systems for the counselling service, including confidential record keeping and data input. This information is used to produce statistical data, and assists the evaluation of the counselling within an outcome based framework.
It is anticipated the post holder will primarily concentrate on delivering counselling to young people but may also provide some awareness raising training with staff.

Place of work: S.M.I.L.E Counselling has been successfully establishing strong working relationships with several Secondary Schools across the region of West Lothian, where these posts will be situated.
Job Scope:
This post involves delivering an established counselling service within a Secondary school setting. Supported by your Clinical Team Leader, you will liaise with school Pupil Support to ensure a quality therapeutic service is delivered to the young people. The therapeutic work will consist of short-term counselling and potentially drop-in sessions and small group work. Group work would involve the education of mental wellbeing as opposed to group-therapy.
The post holder will also be expected to maintain robust supporting systems for the counselling service. This will include adhering to ethical guidelines and GDPR on keeping confidential record keeping. In addition to record keeping, the post holder is also responsible for the recording of client attendance, and the evaluation of counselling through an outcome-based framework. This is supported by our Office 365 Forms and data capture.
While the post holder will primarily concentrate on delivering counselling to young people, they may also be requested to provide some awareness raising training with teaching staff.

Counsellors currently work from the office or in Schools. Provisions are in place should the Scottish Government impose further restrictions as a result of Covid-19. S.M.I.L.E have previously successfully maintained a counselling service delivered remotely via Zoom Pro video, Teams and telephone.

Since 2015 our CYP counselling services have provided high quality professional counselling support for children and young people who are struggling with issues in their lives. We welcome everyone through our door and are always non-judgemental. We are a small sized charity expanding quickly, a mixture of our funding coming from our training delivery and contracts, Trusts and Foundations.
As well as delivering individual CYP counselling, we are proud of our recent expansion into the training arena in which we deliver a variety of counselling and mental wellbeing programmes including COSCA Counselling Skills, ASIST, SMHFA and our customised mental wellbeing and health (M.W.A.H.) training.

S.M.I.L.E Counselling is a leading children and young person’s counselling Charity currently based in Livingston. We are now looking for a Treasurer to join our team. This is a voluntary position.
As a Treasurer at S.M.I.L.E. Counselling, your responsibilities will be:
• Fulfilling the duties of a trustee of a Scottish charitable company
• Keeping the accounts; completing and recording financial transactions
• Financial Reporting: keeping the Board and the membership informed of the financial position of the Charity
As such the treasurer should have an understanding of financial matters and be committed to the aims and objectives of the Charity.
Time commitment -: Approximately 3-6 hours per month including attending monthly Board meeting.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed along with membership of the Employee Assistance Scheme.
