Art Therapist

Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith, Midlothian.

We are looking for a dynamic and flexible Art Therapist to provide Art Therapy to young people aged 12-18 in both individual and groupwork settings.

The postholder will also develop and promote further therapeutic work both within and outwith MYPAS.

Qualified to Diploma level (or equivalent) in an art therapeutic discipline, a member of BAAT and have experience of working with young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. Contributing to the wider MYPAS service, the postholder will ensure that young people are worked with using a holistic approach through effectively linking the work of the Therapies team with other areas of MYPAS’ work as well as that of partner organisations.

This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.

The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout Midlothian, including operating from other venues, will be required.

School Counsellor

MYPAS promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith.

MYPAS will be conducting 2 eight month pilots of School Counselling simultaneously in East Lothian and Midlothian local authority areas. Each of the 2 pilot areas will have a full-time equivalent Counsellor (a post may be shared) for the eight month period.

The Counsellor will be responsible for delivering counselling with 10-18 year olds in a High School cluster (the High School and the associated Primary Schools) over a 6 month period. There will be a month set-up and a month evaluation period either side of the counselling delivery period.

We would like to start the project as soon as possible – ideally by the end of April.

Please note it is the intention of both local authorities to put the full service out to tender during 2020.

The postholder will be responsible for providing counselling with children and young people aged 10-18 who attend school. The postholder will establish, develop, evaluate and report on, the piloting of the School Counselling service within the specific High School cluster.

Qualified to Diploma level (or equivalent) in a counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, COSCA) and have experience of working with children and young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and work effectively with other agencies, especially schools, in partnership settings.

This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.

You must be able to travel across Midlothian and East Lothian.The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout Midlothian or East Lothian (depending on pilot area) including operating from other venues, will be required.

The post is funded for a fixed term of 8 months (continuation dependent on MYPAS securing further funding).
