Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith.

The postholder will be responsible for providing counselling with children and young people aged 10-18 who reside in East Lothian. The postholder will assist in establishing, developing, delivering, evaluating and reporting on, the School Counselling service.

Qualified to Diploma level in a Counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (either BACP or COSCA) and have experience of working with children and young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and work effectively with other agencies, especially schools, in partnership settings.

MYPAS will deliver a School Counselling service across East Lothian. MYPAS is providing this service on a contract basis for East Lothian Council.

Full-time applications are preferred but part-time work may be considered for these positions depending on service deployment considerations.

These posts will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.

Special conditions:

• The posts are funded for an initial fixed term until 31st March 2023 (This is a three year agreement with the option of 2 additional periods of 1 year extensions). The posts will involve regular evening and occasional weekend working.

The postholder will be responsible for providing Family Counselling with young people aged 12-18, and their families, within a holistic service.

Qualified to Diploma level (or equivalent) in a counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, COSCA) and have experience of working both with young people and also with families, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. Contributing to the wider MYPAS service, the postholder will ensure that young people are worked with using a holistic approach through effectively linking the work of the Therapies team with other areas of MYPAS’ work as well as that of partner organisations.

This post may require evening and occasional weekend work.

Place of work: The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout Midlothian including operating from other venues, will be required.

We are looking for a dynamic and flexible Art Therapist to provide Art Therapy to young people aged 12-18 in both individual and groupwork settings.

The postholder will also develop and promote further therapeutic work both within and outwith MYPAS.

Qualified to Diploma level (or equivalent) in an art therapeutic discipline, a member of BAAT and have experience of working with young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. Role

Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. The postholder will be responsible for the management, day to day operation and development of the School Counselling Service within Midlothian for MYPAS, including line-management of the service staff team. Responsible for a small client caseload.

Qualified to MSC/Diploma level in a counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, COSCA) and have experience of working with children and young people, you will also have experience of managing a staff team and be committed to service development and innovation.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and work effectively with other agencies, especially schools, in partnership settings.

MYPAS will conduct a one year School Counselling pilot across Midlothian’s schools. There is potential to extend the pilot beyond a year as required. A procurement process for a counselling service across Midlothian will take place during the course of this pilot period. Contracts will therefore initially be offered for one year and may be extended, depending on the success of the pilot and the full procurement process.

The post will continue to develop and provide young people focussed, needs-led, friendly, confidential and non-judgemental drug and alcohol service for:

• Young people (aged 12 to 19) in East Lothian

The service will offer:

1. Individual support for young people

2. Group work programmes

3. Staff training

4. Support for families

There is no specific qualification required; however, the post holder will be expected to be educated to degree level. This should be in a relevant field such as Health, Community Education, Social Work or Education, but significant equivalent experience will also be considered. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.

Place of work: The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout East Lothian, including operating from other venues, will be required.

Special conditions:

The contract will run for a period of 6 months (fixed term contract) with the possibility that the maternity cover period will be extended. The post will involve regular evening and occasional weekend working.

Post holders must be able to travel across East Lothian. The post holder will require a driving license and it is essential that they have access to their own vehicle.
