FASS has been supporting families for over 30 years and we continue to adapt and change to best suit the needs of families affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol problems. FASS offers a variety of supports including Support Workers, Hypnotherapy, Holistic Therapies and a Clothing Project. FASS has 21 support groups made up of Family Support, Bereavement and Kinship Groups with over 180 members.

Job Purpose:

To provide advice, information and signposting service to adult’s affected by a loved one’s alcohol or drug addiction, who resides within Glasgow City Council postcode boundaries. This will include liaison with other agencies, monitoring of service and writing reports. The service will be predominantly mobile, providing clients FASS’ services within their home or at a local environment nearby.

The service will be mainly provided from FASS premises but can also be done through our outreach services or telephone support (for those who may be housebound) may also be offered after assessment.

FASS is a Glasgow wide charity that supports families affected by a loved one’s alcohol or drug problems. We also provide support to a number affiliated Family Support, Bereavement and Kinship Groups in the Glasgow area. We are hoping to expand our volunteer and group base and plan to recruit a highly motivated individual with a proven track record in developing groups and a volunteer programme within a charity context. This role will be split into 2 areas.

Volunteer coordinator: will be responsible for reviewing current volunteer policies, setting up a recruitment policy and improving induction pack, supporting existing volunteers with their training and development plans, on- going recruitment of volunteers from various aftercare recovery groups throughout Glasgow, carrying out induction and training with these volunteers and regularly carrying out support and supervision at their aftercare recovery group location. The role will include liaison with other agencies, monitoring of service and writing reports. Training and development needs of volunteers will be looked at and a full training programme will be developed for new and existing volunteers. Volunteers will be sourced in partnership with Recovery Co-ordinators.

Group Development: will be responsible for supporting, maintaining and delivering a range of support services to Family, Bereavement and Kinship support groups. This will include liaison with other agencies, monitoring of service and writing of reports. To identify, source and provide groups with information concerning funding opportunities. Where required, help groups with funding applications and draw up basic yearly accounts. To identify training and development needs within groups and network with local providers to ensure delivery of this to groups. To identify and act on opportunities to set up new support groups.

A large focus will be on Mental Health and Wellbeing for Group Members, Clients and Volunteers. This will include activities to promote Health and Wellbeing. Currently these are promoted with our Spa, a Baking/Cooking class, a Walking Group (excluding winter months) and a online coffee break. These have been set to be online due to the pandemic, however can be introduced face to face when possible. These or similar activities would be organised by the successful candidate.

Service Manager

FASS is looking for a highly motivated, proactive and experienced manager to join our team. Your role will be to manage and develop high quality services for families affected by a loved one’s alcohol/drug issues.

You will be expected to manage and take responsibility for all aspects of the smooth running of FASS.

This post requires you to have a qualification in Social care SVQ level IV, child development, education or equivalent.

You will have significant experience in managing a service as well as overseeing a budget of circa £300k yearly so it is important you have experience in overseeing and operating financial controls.

You will need a broad understanding of the impact alcohol & drugs has on families and the supports FASS can provide to assist families to cope and remain resilient.

Your role will be to manage and develop the service, manage, develop and support staff and volunteers to ensure services delivered are high quality and make a positive impact on the lives of families affected in this way.

Must have excellent management and organisational skills with experience at a level suited to this post and demonstrate how these skills fit into the running of the service. You must have experience in administering finances and operate proper financial controls. Ideally you will already have experience of managing a service in the voluntary sector.

Whilst you can expect a degree of self-determination, you will be accountable to a Board of enthusiastic and experienced people who will expect you to operate a system of reporting at regular intervals. It will also be part of your responsibility to prepare reports for funders and explain the contents as required.

Management of staff is vital and you will be expected to motivate and inspire staff to fulfill the Service requirements.

As the service is delivered in partnership with a range of individuals and organizations, you will be expected to play a major part in forging links with relevant organizations and managing these partnerships.

You will have a proven track record of developing strong relationships at every level with commissioners and key stakeholders in the health and social care sector.

Office Assistant

FASS provides a confidential support service to parents and family members affected by a loved one’s drug/alcohol addiction. We are seeking to recruit an Office Assistant who will carry out a variety of duties including basic housekeeping, reception and administrative reports as required.

You will have previous experience in a similar role and be flexible in your approach and adopt confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.

You must be a good team worker, excellent communication skills and a good working knowledge of IT (Word, Excel and Access). Ability to follow established procedures and work to strict deadlines is also a requirement.
