Rehabilitation Officers

Scottish War Blinded is expanding its specialist Rehabilitation Team and is looking for two qualified Rehabilitation Officers to join the team.

Our Outreach Service supports those who have served in the Armed Forces and now have a sight impairment that is having an impact on their daily life and independence. Based at home, you will visit members across Scotland to provide low vision assessments, mobility training and support with independent living skills in their own homes and communities.

You must possess a relevant qualification in rehabilitation for visual impairment, be a strong team player and be able to work on own initiative. As well as working with individual Scottish War Blinded members you will provide expert training, advice and support to other staff within the organisation who work with those with a sight impairment. This post will require travel throughout Scotland and occasional overnight stays.

Centre Officer

Our Linburn Centre is an activity hub to support the independence of armed forces veterans with sight loss. We are looking for a Centre Officer who will enable members to maximise the benefit and enjoyment they gain from attending the Centre. They will be a key member of the staff team, assessing the needs of our members and developing ways to support their independence.

We aim to find someone with a variety of skills and abilities. You will be innovative and creative in approach and have interests you can share with our members, as well as a caring approach.

If you do not already have an SVQ3 in health and social care, we will expect you to be willing to work towards this qualification. You will have at least a year’s experience of working with older people, adults with a vision impairment or other disabilities, or service veterans. Above all you will be a team player with excellent communication skills.

Top job! Centre Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a visionary manager with a minimum of five years’ experience of working with either older people or adults with disabilities to manage the Scottish War Blinded activity centre in Paisley.

The Hawkhead Centre provides a hub of activity and support for Armed Forces veterans with a sight impairment from across the West of Scotland. The Centre Manager’s role is to lead and continue to develop the service, managing a multi-disciplinary team of staff who have the skills, knowledge and vision to empower Scottish War Blinded members to lead fulfilling and independent lives.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Social Work or equivalent, a management qualification and be eligible for SSSC registration. He / she will possess outstanding leadership qualities, be experienced in staff and budget management and be knowledgeable about relevant legislation, statutory and third sector provision for older people with a sight impairment.

The Hawkhead Centre is part of a Scotland-wide service to Scottish War Blinded members and the Manager will be part of the Scottish War Blinded management team.
