Community Learning Coordinator

We inspire people of all ages to explore and understand the world around them, to discover and enjoy science and understand its relevance to their own lives.

We are recruiting for a Community Learning Coordinator to work within the Glasgow Science Centre Community Learning and Development team, to implement the Community Learning Programme in accordance with the CLD strategy. This involves development and delivery of the programme and building relationships and partnerships within communities across Glasgow, with the aim of impacting on Social Change through science learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design the content of the Community STEM learning programme in collaboration with team members, community members, and community/youth workers ensuring they have interesting, current and relevant content and enable them to be delivered in an entertaining, effective and professional manner that inspire, challenge and engage a community audience.
  • Assist in the training of staff in the delivery of the programme, ensuring they are equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver the experience to the highest quality standard.
  • Ensure content of all programmes and experiences is scientifically accurate, accessible for all and where appropriate linked to the relevant curriculum.
  • Using a CLD approach, co-deliver the Community STEM learning programme to community groups either within GSC or in Community settings.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of professional learning to CLD Workers, Youth Workers and other community focussed professionals in order to raise their capacity to integrate STEM learning into community activities.

Person Specification

  • Strong experience in a Community Learning and Development setting – professional CLD qualification desirable.
  • Experience of integrating science learning into community activities (this could include digital inclusion, numeracy and other activities related to STEM: science, technology, engineering and maths)
  • Significant experience in facilitating group work with a CLD approach.
  • Experience in collaborative working and partnership building.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering project work.

Our mission is to be an essential bridge between citizens and science and technology. We inspire people of all ages to explore and understand the world around them, to discover and enjoy science and understand its relevance to their own lives.

We are seeking to recruit at least two new Trustees. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or hoping to take your first step at Board level, we would like to hear from you.

The role of a Trustee is to direct the affairs of the charity through efficient, effective and accountable governance, ensuring that the organisation is professionally run and acts in accordance with its stated aims and objectives. Trustees are responsible for ensuring GSC has a clear vision, mission and strategy which fulfils its purposes, to support and challenge the Executive Team in delivering that strategy and to ensure the good governance of the charity.

We are looking for outstanding individuals motivated to inspire and empower people through learning and engagement with science, and who are excited by the ambitious programme of change we are embarking on at GSC.

We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with the following backgrounds, skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Arts and Culture sector particularly on the cultural events side
  • Community Learning and Development
  • Education
  • Human Resources and Equality and Diversity
  • Finance
  • Facilities Management (including Health and Safety)
  • Policy Development/ Campaigning

We encourage applications from everyone, however particularly welcome applications from areas of current under-representation on our board including women, people from minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and people under the age of fifty.

Time Commitment

The Board meet for 2 hours on a Monday morning, four times a year (normally February, May, September and November) at Glasgow Science Centre, 50 Pacific Quay, Glasgow. Some Trustees also sit on Board subcommittees (Audit, Finance, Nominations and Remuneration) and various ad hoc Working Groups, which meet 2 to 3 times a year.
