Volunteer & Training Coordinator

  • Part time
  • £22,000 pro-rata
  • Braemar Castle
  • Closing 8th February 2019

Braemar Community Limited seeks to appoint a Volunteer & Training Coordinator for an initial 9 month period as it develops its Round 2 Heritage Lottery Fund application for the £1.5m upgrade and redevelopment of Braemar Castle. The post will principally focus on developing the Volunteering Strategy and Training Plan that will form key supporting documents in the application.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

A key focus of the redevelopment project is the expansion and diversification of activity programming that will enable BCL to reach a greater volume and wider range of audiences. Developing our volunteering and training offer is a core strand of our activity programme and also, as a principally volunteer-run attraction, integral to the long-term sustainability of Braemar Castle. During the development phase the Volunteer & Training Coordinator will have two principal tasks:

  • Developing a Volunteer Strategy – formal strategy setting out our volunteer aspirations and core targets alongside our approach to achieving them. The strategy should include our approach to volunteer recruitment, management and training; an outline of the roles available the benefits and recognition volunteers will receive.
  • Developing a Training Plan – a formal training plan developed for all staff, volunteers and trainees with provisions for a partner training scheme and ‘train the trainer’ sessions.

It is important that both documents reflect the audience development aspirations and activity ideas set out by BCL. The Volunteer & Training Coordinator will be involved with developing the roles and engagement projects which will involve volunteers, staff and trainees as well as formulating the processes and mechanism by which they will be recruited, managed and rewarded.

Consultation, with BCL, existing volunteers, the local community and potential project partners is critical for the development of both documents and therefore a key duty of the post holder. Collating baseline information and setting out a plan for monitoring and evaluation volunteering and training activity is also a job requirement.
