Since 1987, Toonspeak has provided free, high quality drama and theatre activities for young people living in Glasgow. We work with professional artists who challenge and inspire young people to create their own performances and manage their own projects – all of our work is young people led and we have 6 places for young people on our voluntary Board of Directors. We aim to expand young people’s imaginations to help them reach their full potential and to inspire positive change within communities of disadvantage across the city. We ensure that anyone, regardless of experience, ability or personal circumstances can take part.

Head of Finance and Operations

Toonspeak is a Youth-led Arts Organisation based in Glasgow on a mission to transform lives through creativity. We work with Children and Young people up to the age of 25 from across the City. We create unique exciting creative programmes designed to release young people’s potential, expand imaginations and inspire change.

Recognised as forerunners in youth leadership and inclusive governance, participants are supported to serve on our board of directors and empowered to influence the development of the organisation.

We are proud to be the first youth-led organisation to join Creative Scotland’s portfolio of Regularly Funded Organisations. Toonspeak have been celebrated for our commitment to equality, and our person-centred approach.

Toonspeak is seeking to appoint for the role of Head of Finance and Operations: The successful candidate will join our small, dedicated core team of 5 and lead on development and delivery of our finances, fundraising and operations as part of the Senior Management Team of the organisation.

It’s an amazing time to join us as we come to the end of a year of Covid and look forward to re-establishing our physical programmes in the coming months. We have continued to operate during the past year delivering an award nominated response programme, which saw us shortlisted for an Achates Philanthropy prize and a SURF Award (Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum).

We are Recruiting for a new CHAIR for our Board!

Toonspeak is a Youth led Arts organisation based in Glasgow working with young people aged 0-25.

Toonspeak’ mission is to support, nurture, connect, inspire, transform and progress children & young people in Glasgow

Our activities include theatre, music, writing, technical production, arts & crafts, creative careers coaching, and events production. All activities are provided at zero cost, with free transport and food provided where needed to meet our commitment to absolute equality of access. Working in areas of multiple deprivation, and supporting young people who face additional challenges, the aim of our activities is to enable young people to realise their potential, becoming leaders and beneficiaries of the arts, as practitioners, participants and audience members.

Award Nominated for our COVID Response and Recovery Programmes and now undertaking our biggest piece of work as part of the National Culture Collective Programme, 2022 looks to be an incredible milestone year for us as we also celebrate 35 years of operating.

Toonspeak is now looking to recruit a Chair to lead the Board of Directors and support the staff team as we emerge from COVID and into 2022. This is a voluntary role.

We are a Youth led organisation creating unique exciting creative programmes that release young people’s potential, expands imaginations and inspires change within our communities.

We are currently seeking a talented, reliable person to fill the post of Funding Officer.

In exchange for your hard work and commitment we can offer a chance to work for an award winning charity at a key exciting stage of our development.

The post holder will lead on key aspects of fundraising for Toonspeak, working closely with the Head of Finance and Operations to achieve our Income targets. The core purpose of the role is to generate income to sustain the company and the pioneering projects and programmes Toonspeak delivers across Glasgow.

Location: Some time would be spent at our BCDC base attending meetings. The post holder would also visit workshops on and off-site (in order to build case studies and compelling narratives about Toonspeak work). Flexible work options are available for this post including home working.

Key aims:

  • Develop and submit funding applications to both private and public sources
  • Actively research funding streams from statutory, trusts and commercial organisations to support projects and deliver on core revenue targets.
  • Develop and implement an innovative funding and income strategy that reduces our reliance on Trusts and Foundations.
  • Support in the Monitoring & Evaluation of our work, and develop and submit reports for funders and sponsors
