Welfare Benefits and Energy Adviser

Due to the retirement of one of our Welfare Benefit Advisers, we are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Welfare Benefits and Energy Adviser to join our accredited Welfare Benefits Advice Service.

Based in Dalkeith, just south of Edinburgh, Melville Housing Association is a charitable Registered Social Landlord committed to supporting local communities. With more than 2,000 properties, we provide and develop high quality affordable homes and housing-related services to over 5,000 residents across Midlothian and beyond.

The successful applicant will need to have a good knowledge of welfare benefit legislation and experience of, or an interest in, providing energy advice. We are looking for someone to provide customer-focussed services and ensure our tenants receive excellent, confidential advice to maximise their income and opportunities.

The successful applicant must have a good level of education (minimum of 5 Standard Grades) and evidence of continued professional development. Preference will be given to applicants who hold qualifications in benefits or housing or an SVQ in providing advice and guidance.

In order to achieve high levels of performance and maintain excellent service standards, you will have strong administrative and reporting skills, as well as excellent IT knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

You must also have the ability to build good relations with our tenants and partners and contribute to our enthusiastic team, together with the ability to work well on your own initiative.

A full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle insured for business use is a requirement of this post.

Our generous conditions of service include a contributory pension scheme provided by the Lothian Pension Fund, and 38 days annual leave (which includes public holidays and other days when the office is closed).
