Home-Start Edinburgh is a volunteer-led charity with over 35 years-experience working in local communities, supporting families with a child under 5 in the home. We are currently recruiting for the role of Family Support Co-ordinator. Whilst our Head Office is in Leith, the successful applicant will be required to support volunteers and families in one of Edinburgh’s four localities.
This role will be tasked will support families, predominantly through the network of volunteers they recruit, support and train. They will also be expected to contribute to the wider operation and further development of the scheme.
The post-holder will work with the other Family Support Co-ordinators, as well as other staff, to ensure families receive holistic, high quality support. They will contribute to the ongoing training and development of volunteers, including delivery of the Volunteer Prep course, as well as networking with other local organisations.

Since 1986 we have been supporting families with young children, working towards the goal that every family has the support they need, to give their children the best possible start in life, so they are able to take up and benefit from the opportunities available to them.
This role will help families to achieve the goals they establish at initial assessments and reviews through coordinated support, linking with our Volunteer Home Visiting model that is central to our work as well as liaising with other third sector, health, and education colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy;
- Experience of working or volunteering to support families, including the child protection and safeguarding systems;
- Good understanding of the needs of children and families;
- Passion for building community capacity; and,
- Flexibility to respond to changing needs of families.

As a Trustee you’ll serve on one of our governing bodies and help us direct the management and administration of the charity.
About Home-Start Leith & North East Edinburgh and Home-Start Edinburgh West & South West
These 2 Home-Starts are local community organisations of trained volunteers and expert support, helping families with young children through challenging times. Normally we visit families regularly at home, run groups and offer baby massage. Throughout COVID-19, we have continued to work with families, adapting our support to the current circumstances.
Experience Required
Essential : commitment, willing to make time available, vision, good judgement, creativity, able to speak out, understand trustee responsibilities, team-work.
Desirable: first hand or local experience of issues faced by families with young children, finance systems and budgets
Training Details
You will be introduced to Home-Start’s services and your responsibilities, receive safeguarding training, and have access to Home-Start’s intranet and the support of specialist staff

Flexible
Approximately 4-5 hours per month, to suit individual Trustees' circumstances
Location/Travel Details
Our offices are on Leith Walk (Home-Start Leith & North East Edinburgh) and Ferry Road (Home-Start West & South West Edinburgh). Because of Covid restrictions, Trustee Board meetings are being held online for the time being.

Following a successful merger of two smaller schemes, Home-Start Edinburgh is looking to recruit an experienced and passionate Senior Co-ordinator to help implement the charity’s new strategic plan…because childhood can’t wait.
This role will be tasked with overseeing the delivery of group work, perinatal work and other areas to support families with young children. The post-holder will work with the other Senior Co-ordinator and Manager to lead the team of staff and volunteers to deliver work across Edinburgh, and network with partners to ensure high quality service delivery to the community.
