Purpose of the organisation:

Community development work seeks to actively engage communities in making sense of the issues which affect their lives, setting goals for improvement and responding to problems and needs through empowerment and active participation.

The Community One Stop shop is a local community project established in 2003 which is home to CHAI Advice Provision, Employability Services, Broomhouse Food Bank and various other services. We are now seeking to employ a part time finance officer who will be able to take the project to new levels and help best meet our financial requirements and responsibilities.

This part time post will be focused on the monitoring and overseeing of all financial transactions within the project.

  • Payment of invoices and recoding of all payments and transactions
  • Payroll including pension and tax payments
  • Bank account reconciliation
  • Income scheduling, recording of grant payments
  • Prepare OSCR returns
  • Contribute to annual budget preparations
  • Direct Debit and annual payment management
  • To maintain staff HR files
  • Review staff annual leave and pay reviews
  • To ensure all incoming payments are received
  • To prepare bi monthly reports for management committee
  • Any other work as directed by Project Manager

We are an Edinburgh based charity seeking Management Committee members.

The Community One Stop Shop exists to support the residents of West Edinburgh and to help alleviate the effects of poverty.

We worked with over 3000 people last year through our services which include Advice Provision, Foodbank and Employability Support.

We are ideally looking for trustees with an interest in poverty and social exclusion social care background, and also trustees with experience of board governance.

What you will do

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a great understanding of charity or similar corporate governance to join our Management Committee.

You will play a critical role in leading the charity, driving our fundraising strategies and bring a solid networking background that can help our aims.

Volunteer Development Officer

Established in 2002, the Community One Stop Shop (COSS) is situated in the heart of Broomhouse, we offer support to those resident in areas in the top 5% to 10% of most deprived areas in Scotland. COSS provides support to our clients through three strands of work; Advice Provision; Employability Support, and a Food Bank.

We are currently expanding the services we offer, and are looking for a Volunteer Development Officer to support our current volunteers while recruiting new volunteers. Volunteers are one of our best assets; we have volunteers who regularly give their time to support the work of the project. Under the supervision of the Development Worker and in coordination with the Project Manager, the Volunteer Development Officer will coordinate and manage the recruitment, retention, training and development, scheduling and support of volunteers across our projects. This role is essential in ensuring that volunteers have a rewarding experience at the Community One Stop Shop.

Employability Advisor

To manage and deliver the employability services within the Community One Stop Shop, to include the following:

  • to support clients into employability
  • to help prepare CV’s and assist with job applications
  • to work with clients and build confidence in their job seeking skills
  • liaise with funders to ensure compliance with funding reporting guidelines
  • to raise the profile of COSS’s employability service with other local and city wide service providers
  • to manage and increase the footfall of traffic within the project with regard to employability
  • provide monthly reports on performance v targets to the project manager and quarterly report to management committee
  • to provide timely reports to project manager on any issues regarding of the delivery of service
  • to raise the profile of the services available, attend recruitment fayres and all relevant community events.
  • to recruit and manage any volunteers deemed necessary for the delivery of the project.
  • to ensure compliance with GDPR
  • to adhere to all COSS’s policies and procedures


  • Must have relevant employability experience
  • Experience of Caselink or other similar recording systems
  • IT literate
  • Driving license preferred but not essential
  • Flexibility with hours
