Support Worker 2 (Holyrood Hub)

  • Full time
  • £18,810 – £21,677
  • Edinburgh
  • Closing 19th April 2021

Support Workers in the Holyrood Hub work together with the people we support to find solutions that help to resolve their homelessness. Support plans are person-centred so that the support people receive is based on their needs and wishes. Support Workers create an environment that is friendly and safe, based on the psychologically informed environment and trauma informed care principles.

As a multi-agency hub we host a range of agencies who bring their services to people at the Holyrood Hub therefore working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team is central to the Support Worker role.

A significant number of people who use our services are not originally from the UK and they have varying levels of English language abilities. We want the diversity of the population to be reflected in our staff team and welcome applications from nationals of other countries who are fluent in English as their second language. We especially need people who can communicate in Polish, Italian and Romanian.

Job Purpose

People who use our services are often excluded from many other places and we work hard to offer support that people can engage with, striving not to exclude anyone. Support is trauma-informed and underpinned by the psychologically informed environment principles.

Support Workers are experts in building positive relationships with people who understandably find it difficult to trust others, demonstrating perseverance and resilience.

We help people who have survived significant trauma in their lives and who are often dependent on alcohol or drugs as a way of coping. The environment in the Holyrood Hub is dynamic and relies on resilient support workers who are skilled at staying calm in a crisis, with the ability to de-escalate and successfully manage challenging situations.

The Support Worker Level 2 will provide practical and emotional support that is focused on the strengths and goals of the people who use the service, following a harm reduction approach, promoting choice and encouraging personal responsibility. You will establish and maintain strong professional relationships with a range of internal and external partners to deliver coordinated, effective support for people who use the service.

You will be responsible for maintaining case and service records and for contributing to the wider administrative requirements of the service. You will ensure that the service you provide is delivered in line with the Scottish Social Services Council’s Codes of Practice for Social Services Workers and complies with regulatory requirements, including health and safety.

We are always looking to improve, with Support Workers playing a key role in the continuous development of our services. You will embrace change, recognising that our role is to help people make changes in their lives and so we have to be experts at delivering change ourselves.

You will play a part in identifying improvements and new initiatives and work in collaboration with internal and external partners to bring these to fruition.

You will report to the Service Leader for the Holyrood Hub and work in harmony with colleagues across Simon Community Scotland. You will look outwardly to develop your practice area in conjunction with the people you support, partner agencies and potential partners. Support Workers participate in a rota to cover the 24 hour freephone service.
