As a membership organisation, we host national events where we bring together the people who know what needs to change and then work with influencers who can make the changes happen.

Established in 1998, Staf (Scottish Throughcare and Aftercare Forum) is a membership organisation for all those working with young people leaving care. Staf is a national organisation which represents all 32 Local authorities in Scotland and is funded by membership fees, events and grant funding.

At the centre of all our work is the voice of our membership and the workforce who support young people leaving care, working towards our vision of a Scotland where their wellbeing and success is not determined by their care experience. The Role:

This position requires an inspirational leader with the drive, understanding, vision, gravitas and political awareness necessary to engage, motivate and enable others to thrive and flourish.

The CEO holds accountability and responsibility for:

  • providing leadership to the organisation within the strategic framework established by the Board;
  • developing and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders including our members, other national organisations, key funders, the Government, Opposition and other political parties, relevant government departments and associated agencies, other voluntary organisations and sponsors.
  • supporting the Board in the performance of its governance functions;
  • ensuring that the contribution of Board members, staff and volunteers is coordinated effectively so that Staf objectives, short term and long term, are achieved in a manner consistent with its statement of values.

Marketing and Communications Officer

The role:

We are looking for a gregarious individual to join our Policy and Communications team, someone who will bring an enthusiastic and outward facing approach to engaging our members as well as other organisations who should be part of the Staf family!

Our Marketing and Communications Officer will have an excellent skillset in all areas of marketing and will love people, love what Staf does and love a challenge.

They will work as part of our Policy and Communications Team in creating campaigns to increase attendance at events, increase our membership and monitor and increase member engagement.

Ensuring our members are kept up to date and encouraged to take part in Staf activities will be what gets you out of bed with a smile every day!

Personal specification:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to quickly identify areas for increasing membership, gaining sponsorship and increasing attendance at events.
  • Excellent telephone manner and the ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to create engaging and informative communications in a variety of formats.

Main Functions of Role:

  • To support the Communications team in creating and delivering campaigns to increase brand awareness, membership and attendance at events.
  • To regularly engage with members through digital channels and on the telephone, as well as updating the membership database.
  • To monitor member engagement and create plans for re-engaging members who have not been actively involved in Staf work for some time.
  • To identify and progress opportunities for developing our membership and sponsorship.
  • To keep the Staf website updated with news, blogs and information, and use social media channels to share updates.
