Board Trustees

  • Unpaid
  • Edinburgh
  • Closing 23rd September 2021

Granton Youth (affectionately known as GY) provides opportunities for young people aged 11-27 living within North Edinburgh. GY is recognised through its service delivery of open youth work, outreach work, detached streetwork, counselling, family support, volunteering and schools-based programmes to support and engage our local young people, who actively participate in designing services and programmes we provide.

The current Board wishes to appoint additional trustees (currently 6 in place) as it is likely that Trustees will be stepping down at the AGM which takes place in November or December. To ensure Board continuity we are seeking to appoint new Board members.

These positions do not require working knowledge of youth work. Current Board members and staff will provide ongoing support – we won’t drop you in at the deep end.

These roles will suit those interested in developing their skills and knowledge of leading at a strategic level or who already have this experience. They will also be of interest to anyone who just wants to be part of something rather special and see what a difference a charity can make to people.

Board meetings currently take place at around 6-8 weekly intervals and have been taking place over Zoom. The Board is likely to have a ‘mix’ of face to face and virtual meetings once conditions allow.

If you would like to have an exploratory conversation about the roles please get in touch with the Chair David Macnab - davidmacnab89@gmail.com. I promise you this is not a large time commitment. We have dedicated and experienced staff who have operational responsibility with the Board role one that involves overview of the direction and governance. The Chair role does require more time commitment – it varies but as rule of thumb – an hour a week – mainly with catch up meetings with Manager of the charity.
