Purpose of the post
To assist in providing a person- centred Day Support Service which focuses on outcomes for the older people who use Oxgangs Care Services. The service will be provided in both the Oxgangs Centre and, in particular circumstances, in the wider community.
To assist Oxgangs Care to deliver a quality service which meets National Care Standards and the SSSC Codes of Practice.
Oxgangs Care is a charity committed to the welfare of older people which provides services within a defined catchment area in south west Edinburgh. The project is funded by City of Edinburgh Council with a remit to develop and deliver services for older people and their carers’. It is principally a Centre based service offering older people social interaction in a group situation, focussing on social support which promotes independence and physical and mental wellbeing. It operates 3 days per week (Weds to Fri). Since March 2020 the Centre has been closed in response to Covid-19 restrictions. Currently, staff are providing telephone support to our service users and, Covid restrictions permitting, house visits with support until the Centre can be re-opened. The service is registered with the Care Inspectorate.
We have plans to develop the service by providing an additional day specifically for people living with dementia. This is dependent on funding.
We also provide a volunteer befriending service for older people managed by a Volunteer Coordinator.
We are looking for a motivated individual to initially manage a small team of 3 Support workers, Administrator and Befriending Co-ordinator. Once in post, you will support recruitment of a Depute Manager to assist with supervision and support of the team.
You will be responsible for the delivery of quality person centred day support services. You will lead on the quality and future development of the service in conjunction with the Board of Trustees.
You should have good leadership skills, communication, written and assessment skills and the relevant experience to manage a voluntary sector service such as Oxgangs Care. You will be involved in networking with partner organisations and statutory agencies and, contribute to delivering a person-centred service. You will be supported by the Board of Trustees and have access to appropriate training when required.
As the service is registered with the Care Inspectorate you should be appropriately qualified for the role of Registered Manager. You must hold or gain a ‘practice’ and ‘management’ qualification which satisfies the registration requirements of the SSSC. The minimum requirement for the post is an appropriate ‘practice’ qualification. See Job specification and SSSC website (Manager of an adult day care service) for further detail.
If you do not hold the full qualification to meet SSSC requirements, Oxgangs Care will fund your training.
