Support in Mind Scotland has a number of new exciting opportunities in its Tayside service for people who wish to support those with Mental Health needs. We are looking for caring empathic people who will be ready to help with compassion and understanding as well as humour and respect.
In these new roles, you will provide information, guidance and support to people in both one to one contact and groups. Personal Action Plansreflect individuals own goals and ambitions and take a recovery approach. Individual plans maximise income and consider other practical needs such as housing, employment, education and inclusion. We take a rights based approach to help empower and inform people, networking and advocating for them as necessary. Once a personal action plan is identified, the plan is delivered and reviewed within 6 months.
Together we want people to feel better about their mental as well as physical health, and as such feel connected and part of a local community where their voice matters.
Effective networking is at the heart of our service. You will work with colleagues and partners across the Tayside community to ensure people using our services needs are assessed and met.
Hearing Voices: Hearing Voices is an outreach service delivering one to one support, group sessions and remote support to people experiencing psychosis. Underpinned by a behavioural approach to the management of sensory disturbances and delivered within a model of peer support, this service enables individuals to shape their personal recovery. We place people we support at the centre of their own assessments and support packages where they identify their own goals to improve their circumstances and wellbeing and we support them to get the assistance they require within their community.
Resilience: Our proposed new Resilience Service will provide early information and support to people across Tayside who require assistance with their mental health needs. This early intervention and prevention model enabling access to joined-up services is a tested approach we currently deliver across Fife. The service will link people to a range of supports and providers across Tayside to identify needs early and together prevent unnecessary degeneration in someone’s mental health through promoting resilience and recovery.
CUThru: This post will engage with young people referred to Tayside’s Child and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) focussing on the Perth & Kinross area at this preliminary stage. SiMS wishes to promote its support to 16- to 24-year-olds and has been funded by the Perth & Kinross Mental Health Partnership to engage with young people to identify support and information they would like that would contribute to the following outcomes:
The service will build relations with CAMHS colleagues as well as supports and providers to enable young people to integrate into their local community and minimise the need for statutory or hospital-based services.
All services will benefit from use of Support in Mind Scotland’s National Information Service and Money Advice Service provided in conjunction with Mental Health UK.
Who are we looking for
The ideal candidates should be interested in people, have excellent social skills and a good sense of humour!
Support in Mind Scotland values lived experience and would welcome applications from people with this experience and experience supporting people with their mental health.
The successful candidate will work as part of an experienced supportive team and will receive induction and regular support and supervision to help them in their role.
The successful candidates may be educated to SVQ 3 level or have lived and work experience in mental health. They may have experience of personal planning, have some experience of assessments and some insight in the law with relation to Mental Health. Training and support will be available to successful applicants.

Post: Practitioner (Suicide Bereavement Support), Highland. 3 Posts
Location: Home based in the Highlands, with the option of office-based work in our Inverness or other Highland offices once Covid-19 restrictions are eased
Salary: £12,801 per annum (£21,336 FTE)
Hours: Part-Time, 21 hours per week
Tenure: Fixed term contract to 31 March 2023 (Possible extension subject to renewed funding)
Interview dates: 25 & 26 August 2021
Closing date: Midday, 10-08-2021
About the Role
Support in Mind Scotland have an exciting opportunity to join its newly launched Suicide Bereavement Support Service in the Highlands.
We are seeking individuals who want to support their community by helping families affected by suicide and who have a good understanding of compassionate, person-centred support work.
The Scottish Government, in its “Suicide Prevention Action Plan, 2018”, committed to provide “timely and effective support for those affected by suicide across Scotland”. This firm commitment to provide support for those who have lost a loved one to suicide is being addressed by the piloting of a new, national, rapid-response service.
This service will be provided in partnership between Support in Mind Scotland, who will primarily provide support in the Highlands (including Argyll and Bute), and Penumbra, who will primarily provide support in Ayrshire and Arran. Both organisations will collaborate to deliver the best possible outcomes for families bereaved by suicide.
The service is not an alternative to specialist mental health services or a substitute for bereavement counselling. Instead, it is designed to be a supportive liaison service that can offer practical assistance at a distressing time, by providing early advice and assistance to bereaved families, practical support (e.g. help with arranging a funeral and advice on financial issues), safety plans, assessments of need, and by signposting to local support organisations. The service will take referrals from a wide range of sources including community groups and statutory and third sector agencies, as well as self-referrals.
Based in the Highlands, you will be part of a joint-agency team that includes colleagues from both charities. Offering early advice and assistance, you will provide telephone, online and face-to-face support to bereaved family members and connect them with specialist local services in their area. You will also build connections with organisations and groups that can support bereaved families. Your work will involve some travel within the Highlands during the working week.
If you are interested in enabling Support in Mind Scotland to deliver this innovative and vital new service to the Scottish community, and you feel that your profile matches this role’s criteria, then we want to hear from you!
