Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children’s play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.

We are seeking three new Trustees to join our Board and oversee the governance of our organisation, preferably with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

· Health

· Marketing and/or communications

· Finance

Trustees are expected to prepare for and attend around six meetings per year (currently held remotely), and be involved on ad hoc basis otherwise, for example to join a sub-committee or working group, take part in a recruitment panel, attend Harmeny events or support Harmeny’s work externally.

Harmeny SQA Centre is a leading provider of quality training for Residential and Social Services sectors across Scotland. The centre is self-funded and continually receives excellent reports from the quality team at SQA. Based in the grounds of Harmeny School, we are able to offer a suite of qualifications, to individuals and external organisations, including:

  • HNC Social Services
  • SVQ Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF levels 6, 7 and 9
  • SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF levels 6, 7 and 9
  • PDA Assessor and Verifier Awards
  • PDA Health and Social Care Supervision

Currently opportunities exist for fully qualified SVQ Assessors with experience in the health and social care sector to join our SQA Centre on a sessional basis, providing flexibility to individuals.

The ideal candidates will have relevant experience of residential and/or social services, strong communication skills, both written and oral, the ability to manage own workload effectively and the ability to travel to various locations across Scotland. A flexible approach to hours will be required with these roles, in line with business requirements.

Candidates must hold a relevant assessor qualification such as A1, D32/ D33, or L&D9DI, and be educated to HNC/SVQ at SCQF Level 7 or equivalent OR SCQF Level 9 in Social Services or equivalent.

An excellent benefits package is offered along with the following hourly rate £15 (Full Time Equivalent of £27,300 per annum).

Various contracts are available, including permanent, fixed-term with full-time and part-time hours.

We are seeking a Residential Care Supervisor (Nights)/(Night Awake Supervisor) to join the Night Awake Team, on a fixed-term basis from approximately 1 February 2021 until 31 July 2021 (six months). The post-holder will be responsible for all childcare needs through the night as well as supervision, guidance and organisation of the Night Awake Team.

The successful candidate will work an average of 39 hours per week (2028 hours per year) on a rota basis, predominantly 4 nights on / 4 nights off, 10pm-8am. Each month you will work an additional shift (equivalent to 5 nights on / 3 nights off) and the remaining hours will be used for attending Night Awake team meetings, professional development (in person and virtually) and supporting staff induction etc.

Applicants must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in line with the SSSC requirements for residential childcare workers (RCCWs). Applicants must be willing and able to work towards the requirements of RCCWs with supervisory responsibilities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Day Service Manager to join our Education Management Team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective leadership and operational management of Harmeny’s Day Service, 52 weeks per year, and for allocated strategic developments.

The post-holder will be responsible for helping to create and maintain a highly nurturing environment for children, taking responsibility as delegated by the Head of Education or SMT, for managing financial and people resources to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of children attending on a daily basis. They must also be able to attend to the care and welfare needs of children and staff, reporting any safeguarding or health and safety issue immediately, in line with relevant Harmeny policies and procedures. They will share the responsibility for the day-to-day running and ongoing development of the organisation, as part of the Harmeny School Management Team (HSMT). Linking with the day service families is also a crucial part of this role to ensure positive relationships are maintained and the appropriate therapeutic support can be offered to the children and their families.
