Business Manager, Farm Enterprise

Cyrenians Farm, at Kirknewton is a working organic farm producing local fruit, vegetables and eggs, and is also home to a community of vulnerable young people, many with backgrounds of homelessness. Cyrenians also runs a Good Food Programme in Edinburgh which is home to several food related services including FareShare Central and South East Scotland which collects excess food form local outlets and redistributes to other organisations working with people in need and Food Education services offering cooking classes and creating clubs alleviating isolation and loneliness.

Working with the Head of Enterprise and the Farm team, this role will oversee the Farm operation including the implementation of new initiatives in the growth plan. These tasks include promoting the enterprise and the Good Food Programme, developing effective marketing and communications with the support of the central team, manage the Farm facility ensuring maintenance within Health and Safety requirements, manage the Farm team of staff and volunteers to deliver operationally and ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.

You should also be an effective team player, with excellent organisations skills and business experience in the food sector. You will be trustworthy and responsible, and able to demonstrate Cyrenians values of compassion, respect, integrity and innovation in the work that you do.

Cyrenians Farm Community provides accommodation for up to 8 young people who will have experienced a tough reality, potentially as a consequence of family breakdown, homelessness, drug or alcohol issues, or poor mental health. The purpose of the Communities is to provide a safe and stable community environment for young people to live, learn and develop together. Our unique approach to supported accommodation helps young people to develop their skills through training and ongoing support

This role involves key work support for residents and volunteers, delivering group work, and liaising with referring agencies. Alongside these, you will work to ensure that Cyrenians Community model is adhered to and developed; and that the quality of service remains high.

We are looking for a well organised and passionate individual who is aware of the challenges young people face. You will have experience of working with this client group, excellent communication skills, and a creative approach to problem solving. You should also be able to demonstrate Cyrenians values of compassion, respect, integrity and innovation in the work that you do.

Community Development Worker

Cyrenians runs the Central and South East Scotland branch of FareShare.

FareShare is the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste through the redistribution of surplus food to frontline charities and community groups.

FareShare has received funding from Scottish Government to enable the redistribution of sanitary products to vulnerable women and girls and low-income households across the country. Working alongside FareShare and our members across Central and South East Scotland, this role will play an essential part in the setting up and running of this new project and ensuring its success.

Engaging with local community groups, as well as existing FareShare members, to provide training and education sessions will enable us to reach as many women and girls as possible. Excellent communications skills and experience of delivering training are essential requirements for this role.

You should also be highly organised with the ability to cope with competing demands, be an effective team player, and be able to demonstrate Cyrenians values of compassion, respect, integrity and innovation in the work that you do.

Community Cook Club Coordinator

In 2015 Cyrenians embarked on a series of food conversations with various stakeholders. We found the resounding message wasn’t just to have food but also to share food with others and so ‘Something to Eat, Someone To Eat With’ was developed.

In response to this, Cyrenians developed and launched Community Cook Clubs to reach out to the isolated and lonely as well as those living with food poverty. The clubs encourage people to learn cooking skills, provide healthy meals, facilitate valuable support services, all whilst generating community spirit.

Over the past couple of years, clubs have been established and we are now in a position to expand the project further. We are looking to recruit an additional coordinator to develop this project on it continuing journey to support people and families across Edinburgh.

You will have experience of recruiting, training, coordinating and supporting volunteers along with the required cooking skills and qualifications.

You will also possess excellent communication skills, have a creative approach to problem solving and be a team player. Being passionate about food and the social impact it can have building community is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate Cyrenians values of compassion, respect, integrity and innovation in the work that you do.

Consortium Manager, Housing First Edinburgh

Housing First is a model of helping people who are homeless and who have multiple and enduring support needs by providing a permanent home and flexible support. Supported by the Housing First Scotland Fund, Cyrenians is leading the delivery of Edinburgh’s Housing First Programme in a consortium alongside Barony, Bethany Christian Trust, Gowrie, Rock Trust, Streetwork and Turning Point. The Consortium Manager will be employed by Cyrenians but will work on behalf of all partners in this initiative.

The post holder will be responsible for marketing and promoting the service, establishing and managing referral routes, coordinating input from partner organisations, and data gathering, analysis and reporting.

This exciting new role will require someone who is committed to addressing homelessness through innovative practice. Additionally, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to establish and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders. Communities Recruitment and Development Worker, Cyrenians Communities

Cyrenians Communities are the beating heart of the organisation and are where it all started. Cyrenians was founded in 1968 with the creation of our City Community followed by the Farm Community in 1972. We have grown and developed, but remain true to the approach that we first took – that of putting people first.

This is role is designed to keep our unique peer volunteer model running smoothly and attract new volunteers. These volunteers provide vital dedicated support to our service and this role is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our model. You will also have the opportunity to work with the wider Communities team on administration support.

We are looking for someone with the skills to market the Communities to potential new volunteers, as well as bring fresh and interesting ideas for developing the volunteer model further. You will have a strong background in recruitment, and your knowledge of volunteer development will enable you to maintain our volunteer numbers at capacity. Outreach Worker (Homeless Navigator Project)

The Homeless Navigator Project seeks to address a visible problem with rough sleeping in Edinburgh. The project offers assistance to people who are experiencing homelessness and cannot, for whatever reason, make use of the current support services that exist in Edinburgh. This is an additional role to increase the capacity of our existing team.

The post holder will be responsible for forming supportive relationships with individuals via street-based outreach and providing advice. The post holder will be required to deliver the service in a street-based setting, moving between service users on foot as part of a 2-3 hour planned route through central Edinburgh.

You should have a good knowledge of local services and their access criteria, enabling you to provide good quality advice, ideally with experience of delivering street based work in Edinburgh.
