Cyrenians’ vision is of an inclusive society in which we all have the opportunities to live valued and fulfilling lives. We work to make that vision a reality through a wide range of services aimed at tackling the causes and consequences of home-lessness and through working with stakeholders across Scotland who can help us achieve this vision. Last year we supported over 11,600 people in their time of need, welcoming a further 13,000 people to Cyrenians services, events and train-ing courses. Over 900 volunteers generously gifted a total of 76, 673 hours of their time, knowledge, support and experience to us across our organisation.

About the role

You’ll be:

About the role

As sessional Community Gardener you’ll contribute to developing a creative and interactive garden and programme for those engaging with our services. You’ll be surprised at how many opportunities you’ll have to perfect planting, bring new ideas and share your enthusiasm and garden knowledge with others. As you’d imagine, there are plenty of chances to get your hands dirty – and it’s safe to say you’ll never be bored!

You’ll be part of a small garden team who engage with a real variety of people to help us we meet our aims, including those on community payback orders and community volunteers.

Golden Years aims to combat loneliness and isolation for people aged 60 plus living in Edinburgh. About the Role

You’ll be:

• Engaging with local older people, seeking out spaces to bring them together.

• Learning of their needs, interests, the challenges they face, and what matters most to them.

• Build connections with the wider community (residents, business owners, other professionals, volunteers etc.)

About you

You will be a people-person who develops relationships that are person centred. You’ll be a good listener and passionate about the rights of older people.

As Places and Projects Coordinator you’ll work closely with our Communities and Compliance teams to ensure our residential sites provide accessible, comfortable, home environments – inside and out – which live our values and meet all regulations and standards.

You’ll be involved in all aspects of building maintenance, including risk management, coordinating utilities and purchasing amenities. You’ll use your organisational and communication skills to liaise directly with contractors, landlords and service providers to improve our properties, and resolve any challenges that naturally arise at such diverse sites.

Falkirk Outreach Worker

Cyrenians offers a variety of support to people within the Falkirk area to address the barriers they face to accessing services, employment, volunteering opportunities, as well as tackling social isolation.

Employability Trainer (casual work)

Cyrenians Employability Service in Falkirk supports people to gain the skills and experience to move towards employment, further education, training or volunteering. Community Gardener

The Walled Garden is around a half acre of ground within Dollar Park, Falkirk.

Falkirk Justice Services renovated the walled garden after it fell into disrepair and Cyrenians assumed responsibility for the day to day management of the garden in August 2015. The aim of the garden is to manage a programme of maintenance and development for those on community payback orders to participate in, and to bring back into use a beautiful space that is open to public.

The post holder will be responsible for the support and management of people on community payback orders and the engagement of volunteers to ensure that we meet these aims. This is a new post to support the Garden Coordinator and existing Community Gardener and expand the garden to 7-day delivery.

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic individual with a “can do” attitude and a genuine interest in gardens and working outdoors. Knowledge of the Justice system is desirable and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to motivate and inspire participants to get the most out of the opportunities that the garden presents. Social Enterprise Coordinator

Key Worker, Key to Potential (part time)

Cyrenians Key to Potential service provides holistic, person-centred support, to help young people coming up to school leaving age to progress into further education, training, or secure employment. This new post is an extension to the Key to Potential project, in response to increasing demand.

Using an outreach approach, the post holder will provide key work, careers guidance and tailored support to young people identified by their school as at risk of leaving without a positive destination, likely to be struggling to engage with mainstream curriculum and have experienced disrupted attendance.

The role will also be involved in the Game On Project, a new personal skills and development programme aimed at care-experienced young people and built around the attraction of football - the game and the business. The post holder will support participants to progress from the programme towards realising their full potential.

Digital Media & Content Manager, Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR)

Cyrenians Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is a national resource promoting and supporting best practice in family conflict resolution and early intervention. Family relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of youth homelessness. Therefore, the service focuses on young people and families experiencing conflict which is affecting both their relationships and their lives.

The Digital Media and Content Manager is a role that is key to the delivery of the SCCR’s online objectives, external communications, and campaigns. The Walled Garden is around a half acre of ground within Dollar Park, Falkirk.

Falkirk Justice Services renovated the walled garden after it fell into disrepair and Cyrenians assumed responsibility for the day to day management of the garden in August 2015. The aim of the garden is to manage a programme of maintenance, growing and planting projects and development for those on community payback orders to participate in, and to bring back into use a beautiful space that is open to public.

The post holder will support and supervise people on community payback orders and volunteers to ensure that we meet these aims. The role will complement the Garden Coordinator and existing Community Gardener to ensure that there is staff cover for the garden to operate 7-days a week. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to utilise their gardening and people skills in a lovely environment and share their skills with others.

We are looking for individuals with a “can do” attitude and a genuine interest in gardens and working outdoors. Building on our award-winning model of mediation and support, we offer 1-to-1 support from skilled mediators, practical support for each family member, and conflict resolution workshops. The project helps build relationships, promotes better communication, and reduces the potential for future conflict.

Cyrenians OPAL (Older People, Active Lives) aims to maintain or increase older people’s independence and wellbeing across the West Lothian area. The service is delivered by a team of dedicated, trained volunteers who offer encouragement, companionship and support to help engage in social, leisure and community activities.

We are looking for a sessional Groups Support Assistant to join our team to support our community work. You will be responsible for the delivery of assigned groups, encouraging and enabling clients to interact in a variety of activities. This post is overseen and supported by the Senior Service Coordinator.

You should ideally have experience of working with older people in an activity based, group setting, encouraging integration and participation to support mental and physical stimulation. You will be creative thinker with a positive, can-do and flexible approach.

Previous experience of working within the voluntary sector, local services for older people and an understanding of Dementia is desirable.

OPAL is a prevention service supporting older adults to remain independent at home for as long as they desire. Working within this team, provides an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of those across West Lothian.

Cyrenians Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is a national resource promoting and supporting best practice in family conflict resolution and early intervention. Family relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of youth homelessness. This is a new role to lead on the development of our children and youth engagement work. About OPAL Borders

Cyrenians OPAL (Older People, Active Lives) Borders is a new service, aiming to maintain or increase older people’s independence and wellbeing across the Scottish Borders. The service will offer encouragement, companionship and support to help engage in social, leisure and community activities.

Our partner Eildon Housing Association, offers extra care and sheltered housing with care and support services to help older people live independently and with dignity in self-contained accommodation across their local Borders communities.

About you

About Linburn Walled Garden

Cyrenians is in the process of signing a three-year lease with Sight Scotland to manage and develop the walled garden at Linburn, West Lothian. The site is 5,000 square meters and already grows a variety of herbs, wild garlic, orchids and vegetables. The garden is well positioned and in an accessible location close to Cyrenians’ farm, Sight Scotland Linburn Centre, the Military Museum Scotland and Wilkieston Legion Hall. This site offers great potential for further development as we look to expand on our seasonal growing and a range of wellbeing nature-based activities. Cyrenians are the lead partner in Live Life which is a partnership working together to help veterans and their families and carers with their mental and physical health.

About the role

We are looking for a flexible and inspiring Garden & Volunteer Wellbeing Coordinator to come and be part of an exciting community walled garden project. You will have experience of supporting staff and volunteers and be able to assist with the project management of the ongoing development of the garden. Helping ensure that the development of the garden is completed within the seasonal timescale. This is initially a 18-month position with a high possibility of extension as we look to develop the space for health and wellbeing activities.

You’ll be:

• Helping with the ongoing development and maintenance of the walled garden

• Working with Live Life and other partners to promote volunteering and creating a space for wellbeing activities

• Helping to recruit volunteers to assist with season growth

The Youth Engagement Leader will be responsible for ensuring young people are involved in decision making that effects them, across the organisation.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with individuals and groups across our services, including our diverse City, Farm and Lotus communities. You’ll also drive and develop our youth forum and ambassadors’ programme, which predominantly involve current and previous communities residents.

You’ll be empowered to create innovative, inclusive opportunities to engage with young people individually and in groups, online and in-person. You’ll work directly alongside them to build their self-confidence, experience and improve our services for youth provision.

As well, you will support your colleagues across the organisation to ensure they are considering how their service design and implementation effects young people and children, their rights and opportunities.
