Good Governance Programmes Officer

Dundee Voluntary Action is a leading, trusted and flourishing organisation, working to make a difference to lives of people and communities in the city.

You will be highly motivated with a passion for charity governance and supporting organisational development in the third sector. Working primarily with smaller charities undertaking our foundation governance programme, you will support the recruitment, programme participation, and assessment of charities across Scotland. You will provide participants with advice and guidance to improve their governance and organisational management, through online feedback as well as by telephone and in person. You will also help promote the governance programmes and maintain resources for participants.

The post holder should be educated to degree level or relevant qualification or have 5 year’s minimum proven experience of working in third sector organisational development, particularly in supporting charity governance.

As a key resource for the successful Making Recovery Real in Dundee partnership, you will promote and build capacity for peer recovery practice in mental health and wellbeing. This role involves developing and supporting Dundee Peer Recovery Network and collaborating with partners and peers to develop and deliver training. You will encourage and facilitate the sustainable growth of informal, volunteering, and paid peer recovery roles in mental health organisations and in communities across Dundee.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to promote and champion Good Governance in Scotland’s Third Sector. Working with the Good Governance Award Manager, initially you will assist with assessing evidence submitted and provide constructive feedback to charities undertaking the Introduction to Good Governance Programme, a nationwide, evidence based e-portfolio confirming that they meet 12 criteria deemed essential for good governance. A good knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Scottish Charity Trustees and confidence to provide constructive feedback to people at this level is therefore essential. You may have previously worked in an organisational development, training or capacity building role, reported to or trained Charity Trustees or have been a Trustee yourself for example. Or perhaps you have experience working in HR. You will be passionate about governance with a desire to help Scottish Charities run efficiently and effectively using best practice throughout.

Additional tasks may include helping to organise events, attending events, report preparation, creating a newsletter, press releases, promoting the award and recruiting prospective organisations. As such you will need to be a confident communicator both verbally and in writing with the ability to prioritise your workload under minimal supervision. You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft applications and experience of online assessment tools such as Onefile would be an advantage.

Our expanding Mental Health Engagement and Involvement Team has the following vacancies for highly motivated and talented individuals who are passionate about involving people in shaping the issues that impact their lives. The team works to ensure that people with lived experience of mental health challenges and third sector organisations working with them are actively involved in making Dundee a City of Recovery.

You will facilitate and support third sector involvement in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of mental health and wellbeing supports for people living in Dundee. You will co-ordinate third sector contributions and voices and represent third sector interests for strategic planning and commissioning purposes. In partnership with others, you will use co-production techniques and processes to maximise resources available to communities to deliver best possible mental health and wellbeing outcomes.

We are seeking an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills to join the team at Dundee Voluntary Action’s Community Companion project. Your role will be to assist in increasing the capacity of the project and support the development of the project to suit the requirements of those using the service.
