Addictions Worker (Counsellor - prison based)

We provide a range of counselling, community rehabilitation & peer support services for people affected by substance misuse to help them on their recovery journey. We are seeking an experienced and competent prison based counsellor to work in partnership with NHS Forth Valley and Scottish Prison Service colleagues at HMP Polmont YOI and HMP Glenochil. You may also be asked to work across other prison establishments in Forth Valley.

You will use your assessment, care planning and counselling skills to work with offenders many of whom are affected by alcohol misuse. A self-starter, you will be comfortable working alongside colleagues within a multi-agency approach in developing creative responses to need. You will;

  • have a recognised professional qualification in counselling
  • have a recognised award in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), or be willing to obtain such an award
  • be familiar with managing a busy caseload and in monitoring and recording all aspects of your work
  • have a strong commitment to promoting recovery

Addictions Worker – Counsellor with Circle’s Women’s Outreach Team

We provide a range of recovery focussed services for people affected by substance misuse. We are seeking an experienced and competent practitioner to join with our partner agency Circle in supporting mothers and their families affected by parental involvement in the criminal justice system

Based in Hamilton and working across South and North Lanarkshire, as a qualified counsellor you will be passionate about recovery and have a good track record in providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions. You will be competent in undertaking assessments and delivering intensive support to women with complex needs. You will be able to demonstrate a high level of quality throughout all your work. As a team player, you will be comfortable in working in a successful and innovative joint service that is a proven alternative to custody.

You will

  • have a recognised professional counselling qualification at a minimum of SVQ level 4 and
  • be familiar with managing a busy caseload and in monitoring and recording all aspects of your work, and
  • be familiar with the SSSC Codes of Practice for employees and employers

ASC provides a range of recovery focused services for people affected by substance misuse and we are also champions of developing local recovery communities. Thanks to the support of the North Lanarkshire Alcohol & Drug Partnership, we plan to create a North Lanarkshire Recovery Community. To help us achieve that we are looking for people to assist us with that task.

You will be passionate and enthusiastic about recovery. If you are in recovery we are looking for you to have had a minimum of one year’s stability from substance misuse or addictive behaviours. You will have a good understanding of the impact that substance misuse can have on individuals, families and communities and you will be familiar with what works to promote and sustain recovery from substance misuse. An ability to work flexibly and creatively in motivating, supporting and encouraging people in recovery is required.

A recognised professional qualification in social care or health care or community work or counselling or addictions is desirable, but not essential. If you do not have any such qualifications we would require you to achieve an SVQ Level 3 Social Services an Health Qualification during your employment with us.
