Addictions Worker (Counsellor - prison based)

We provide a range of counselling, community rehabilitation & peer support services for people affected by substance misuse to help them on their recovery journey. We are seeking an experienced and competent prison based counsellor to work in partnership with NHS Forth Valley and Scottish Prison Service colleagues at HMP Polmont YOI and HMP Glenochil. You may also be asked to work across other prison establishments in Forth Valley.

You will use your assessment, care planning and counselling skills to work with offenders many of whom are affected by alcohol misuse. A self-starter, you will be comfortable working alongside colleagues within a multi-agency approach in developing creative responses to need. You will;

  • have a recognised professional qualification in counselling
  • have a recognised award in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), or be willing to obtain such an award
  • be familiar with managing a busy caseload and in monitoring and recording all aspects of your work
  • have a strong commitment to promoting recovery

Addictions Workers

Working across Forth Valley, as a qualified counsellor you will be passionate about recovery and have a good track record in providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions. You will be competent in undertaking assessments, participating in and facilitating group work and working with service users to develop effective recovery plans. Working under tight deadlines you will be comfortable with multi-agency working and being part of a dynamic organisation that has recovery at its heart.

You will

  • have a recognised professional counselling qualification at a minimum of SVQ level 4 and
  • have a recognised award in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and
  • be familiar with the SSSC Codes of Practice for employees and employers

The two posts shall be based in Alloa and work across Forth Valley.

The two posts are employed by ASC until 30 September 2019. Thereafter the posts transfer to Change Grow Live (CGL) who have acquired the contract to deliver the services that are currently provided by ASC.
