Obesity Action Scotland has established itself as the leading advocacy group on overweight and obesity in Scotland. We are at the forefront of campaigning and awareness raising on this issue. We are looking for a Policy Intern on a fixed term basis to cover a busy period of office activity.

Obesity Action Scotland is hosted and supported by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

The Role

To provide research, policy and communications support within Obesity Action Scotland.

The post holder will report to the Policy and Evidence Manager. The Policy Intern will work closely with the team to:

• actively support the analysis and interpretation of research and policy papers

• assist in the production of evidence-based briefings and materials

• assist in the creation and posting of website and digital media content

This post is provided on a fixed term basis to provide temporary support.

The Role

The Policy and Evidence Manager within Obesity Action Scotland is responsible for the planning, development, presentation and communication of our evidence-based policy positions. Our work focuses on preventing overweight and obesity through improved diet and food environments.

The postholder will report to the Programme Lead. The Policy and Evidence Manager will oversee the following activities on behalf of the Unit

• Gathering, analysing and interpreting data and evidence

• The development of organisational evidence-based policy positions

• Planning and implementation of in-house evidence gathering projects

• Presentation, dissemination and communication of key messages to external audiences

• Influencing policy makers and stakeholders

• Partnership working

The Scottish Obesity Alliance is an alliance of organisations across Scotland who are passionate and committed to preventative advocacy action. This post is positioned within Obesity Action Scotland and in turn hosted and supported by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

The Role

To act as the lead officer and primary point of contact for the Scottish Obesity Alliance, a Scotland wide alliance of organisations interested in tackling obesity. The Scottish Obesity Alliance has an independent chairperson and an Executive Group who set the policy priorities. Obesity Action Scotland provide line management to the postholder.

Reporting to the Programme Lead for Obesity Action Scotland, for line management purposes, the Alliance Manager‘s role will include:

• Supporting and developing the Scottish Obesity Alliance policy and advocacy work

• Supporting and developing all other activities of the Scottish Obesity Alliance

• Enabling and engaging the membership

• Acting as the primary point of contact for the alliance

The postholder will co-ordinate the communications activity of Obesity Action Scotland through digital media

Obesity Action Scotland (OAS) is hosted and supported by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The post holder will be employed within Obesity Action Scotland and will provide support and input to Scotland’s early adopters programme on a whole system approach to diet and healthy weight.

Reporting to the Programme Lead of OAS, the National Co-ordinator will play a key role in the development and championing of a whole systems approach to diet and healthy weight being led by early adopter areas including North Ayrshire, Dundee, Dumfries and Galloway and the East Region.

The programme is a key commitment within Scottish Government’s Diet and Healthy Weight Delivery Plan. A national steering group support and oversee the early adopter activity and the post holder will work closely with the national steering group, national partners and appointed leads within the early adopter areas.

The College supports hybrid working practices including working from home, however, regular attendance at meetings in Glasgow city centre would also be a requirement of the role.
