Increasing Support for the North of Scotland – Regional Development Officer (North)

The Royal Yachting Association Scotland (RYA Scotland) team is recruiting! We are expanding the Regional Development Team and, with the support of sportcotland, are creating a new Regional Development Officer, who will cover the North of Scotland and Islands. This brand-new post will help us grow our reach and support for clubs and centres in the Highlands, Western Isles, Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands and enable them to thrive and become as sustainable as they can be.

This role will complement the Regional Development Officers (RDO) in both the East & West of Scotland. The RDO North will be responsible for creating a strong and vibrant North regional plan reflecting both the RYA Scotland Strategic Plan and the needs of the local and regional communities.

Therefore, we are looking for an exceptional individual who is:

· Enthusiastic, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and has a track record of working collaboratively within a team.

· Has experience of working with a variety of partners using sport & physical activity to create impact and bring about positive changes for clubs, communities and people.

· Creative and curious to explore new ideas to be more effective and have a bigger impact on individuals, clubs, centres and communities.

· Passionate about developing partnerships, people and places.

· Self-motivated and able to prioritise tasks.

This role will work directly with clubs, centres and other local partners, taking the time to understand their challenges and work with them to build creative solutions that address their needs. The role will connect both the boating and the local community, share information and support affiliated organisations in their plans to develop vibrant, engaging activity that makes a positive impact across Scotland. We seek to grow the opportunities for anyone to access boating and ensure sport is available for life.

This role involves considerable travel across the North of Scotland as well as travel throughout Scotland and occasional travel to wider UK locations. Consequently, a full clean UK driving licence and access to a car are essential as is the availability to work flexibly including regular evenings and weekends throughout the year. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake a PVG check upon offer of the role, as this position involves regular contact with children and/or adults at risk.

RYA Scotland is committed to equality of opportunity.

We are passionate about equality and inclusion and welcome applications from all.

We are proud to be the first and only Sport Governing Body in Scotland to hold the LGBT Youth Scotland Foundations Charter and to have been the first in Scotland to achieve the Sport Councils Advanced Equality Standard. We have a focus on engaging women in sailing, disability is no barrier to participation, and we are actively changing to include young people in our decision making so when we say we welcome applications from all – we really mean it!

RYA Scotland is one of the foremost Sport Governing Bodies in Scotland. We protect and promote the interests of the 76,000 strong boating community and the 21,000 people in 272 RYA Affiliated Clubs, Class Associations and Training Centres across Scotland.
