The Langholm Initiative was established in 1994 as a community development trust. Following a huge fundraising effort we have purchased over 10,500 acres of land to develop the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve. We are now looking for a Property Development Manager to help develop plans for some of the key properties on the reserve.

Salary :£35,000 (negotiable) based on a 12 month fixed term contract with any extension subject to funding and meeting of outputs

Status: Employed (although self-employment may be considered) – a flexible approach to working arrangements can be discussed.

We are looking for an individual experienced in planning, creating and managing digital content to join our small team of staff and volunteers who are responsible for the development of the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve.

Your role is to help us engage with our supporters all around the world as we start on the journey of restoring the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve and help us communicate the power of a nature led approach to ecological restoration. Using the latest digital technology and innovations you will help us tell the story of restoring nature and a sense of hope, that communities can make a difference in the global climate and nature crisis response.

The post is offered on an initial 2.5 -year fixed term contract.

You don’t have to have a scientific background - although an interest in, and commitment to, climate change, restoring our natural world and community led action will be beneficial. We have a wealth of local knowledge and community expertise to support and provide detailed information on the ecology of the area.

You don’t have to be a full blown ‘techie’ but we do need you to be at ease with creative multi-media content development and technology to help us tell our story. This project is about using the power of creative media to innovatively capture the changes that are happening to our reserve over time as we restore the land.

You will need to be a good communicator to build digital capacity and skills within the team and the wider community to make sure the project is sustainable when the 3 year contract comes to an end.

The Langholm Initiative is seeking a project manager for its Digital Skills project. The role is part time – 28 hours a week - initially for one year.

Salary: £22,000 pro rata

Pension: 3% employer’s contribution

The main objectives of the project are:

• To develop the digital skills of older people in the community
• To encourage and inspire digital career pathways for younger people
• To support local businesses and community groups with their digital needs
• We require a self-motivated and passionate person to lead this project, with a knowledge of developing digital participation schemes. An experience of delivering services and working with communities is desired, as well as strong administrative and management skills. Partnership working will be key to this role and experience in partnership management, stakeholder engagement and managing expectations is desired.

The Langholm Initiative is seeking a Project Officer to manage and deliver the Inspiring Engagement in Nature project over a 2 year period.

The project will have the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve at its heart and will deliver learning and volunteering opportunities for local people and visitors to the area.

An exciting opportunity has a risen to play a major part in one of the most ambitious community ecological restoration projects in the UK.

The Langholm Initiative, a community development trust based in Dumfries and Galloway in the Scottish Borders is currently in the process of buying over 5,000 acres of land and 6 residential properties from Buccleuch Estates in what is the South of Scotland’s first large scale community purchase.

The Langholm Initiative is now recruiting an Estate Manager to lead the creation and development of the new Tarras Valley Nature Reserve.

The community purchase is high profile and has been well covered in the media over the past 18 months. In addition to the major funders (Scottish Land Fund, South of Scotland Enterprise, John Muir Trust, Carman Family Foundation, Bently Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation and the Woodland Trust), nearly 4,000 members of the public donated to the purchase.

The role is offered on a permanent contract with a pensionable salary of £35k per annum.
