As we emerge from Covid-19 restrictions, Colinton Parish Church is looking for a Children, Young People and Families Worker to work with our Sunday Club and families within the congregation and Colinton community.
Colinton is a suburban parish in the South-West of Edinburgh. We have attractive Rooms beside our Church and a separate Hall elsewhere in Colinton, which under normal circumstances support a variety of activities, including nurseries and a Café.
This appointment is for an eighteen month duration from a mutually agreed starting date which we hope will be in September or October 2021. The post is part-time, 15 hours per week. The exact working pattern is negotiable but must include Sunday mornings and some daytime and some evening work. The salary will be £10000 per annum.

We are looking for one or two Catering manager(s) to lead the Swing Café located within Colinton Parish Church. The café is staffed by a team of volunteers, who will be led by the Catering manager(s).
About the Role
The Swing Café opened in 1999 and is run as a not-for-profit venture to reach out to the local community and visitors to the Colinton area. It is currently open on Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.
The role of Catering Manager will be a 24-hour per week role, to be carried out either by one person, or by two people job-sharing. The working hours are flexible. Administration and planning time can be either within or outside the opening hours of the Café but there will need to be some time on site during opening hours to interact, supervise and manage the team of volunteers on a regular basis.
The Catering Manager(s) will be responsible for managing their own time.
Key responsibilities
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Swing Café
• Support the Minister and Kirk Session to develop outreach activities involving the Swing Café
• Manage the team of volunteers including staff rotas, training, supervision and additional volunteer recruitment
• Ensure that the kitchen equipment is sufficient and in good working order
• Ensure all Environmental Health requirements are met
• Develop and propose new menu ideas, reflecting demand ensuring the Café covers its costs
• Oversee stock control and manage the weekly and bulk shopping requirements
• Liaise with the volunteer finance assistants to assist in book-keeping activities
Key skills, knowledge and experience:
• Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with a wide cross section of people
• Enthusiasm for working with and developing volunteers
• Interest in food and healthy eating, preferably with experience of working in the catering industry either paid or as a volunteer
• A good standard of computer literacy
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to plan, prioritise and work as part of a team
• Sympathetic to the church and community ethos and values of the Café
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
• Experience of working in a catering environment
• Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace
• Up to date knowledge of food hygiene procedures
• Till operation and payment handling
Colinton Parish Church is looking for a part-time Families Worker to work with our Sunday Club and families within our congregation and the Colinton community, including our volunteer team running Messy Church. This post will suit someone with enthusiasm and initiative who is looking for part-time employment working with children and families.
Colinton is a suburban parish in the South-West of Edinburgh. We have attractive Rooms as part of our Church building and these are used for activities including a daytime Café and a playgroup. We also have a separate Hall elsewhere in Colinton, some of which is leased to a private nursery and the rest of this Hall is used for a variety of community and Church activities.
This appointment is initially for an eighteen-month duration from a mutually agreed starting date in Spring or Summer 2023. The post is part-time, 15 hours per week. The exact working pattern is negotiable and expected to vary from week to week but must include most Sunday mornings and some daytime and some evening work. The salary will be £11,100 per annum (£25,900 pro-rata).
