Energy Advice Assistant

Thenue Housing Association has always gone beyond our core housing responsibilities to address the wider needs of our communities and we have successfully secured funding through the Energy Redress Scheme to deliver an Energy Advice Project to our communities.

We are seeking 1 Energy Advice Assistant to join our Energy Advice team. The successful candidate will be part of an Energy Advice Team of 3 staff consisting of 3 posts (1 Energy Advisor and 2 Energy Advice Assistants). The team will provide a free, impartial energy advice, information and advocacy service. The service will be accessible to low income and vulnerable households who are struggling to heat homes and pay energy bills, and tenants who are in energy debt or at risk of energy debt.

You will have practical experience of providing advice and advocacy in a community / voluntary setting as well as experience of working in a customer focussed environment. Key to the role, you will have experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds including vulnerable and ‘hard to reach’ individuals. You must be willing to work towards a City & Guild Energy Awareness Level 3 qualification.

We also provide a factoring service to over 800 owners within our communities.

We are seeking a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated finance professional who will lead our Finance Department. The role of Finance Manager is integral to ensuring that our finance and factoring service is well managed and meets statutory requirements.

The ability to work accurately, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines is essential along with working collaboratively with others and a positive, enthusiastic attitude. You will have a track record of successfully leading a team. You must have excellent communication, IT, organisational and report writing skills, line management experience, and the ability to manage your own workload and that of the team.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, IT & Resources duties will include preparing and producing quarterly management accounts and annual budget, statutory requirements including annual audit, supervising our finance & factoring teams, carrying out a range of day-to-day finance tasks and other related duties.

Digital Inclusion Community Worker

We believe that building sustainable communities is more than bricks and mortar and take a holistic approach to developing our neighbourhoods.

We have successfully secured funding through SCVO’s Digital Participation Charter Fund to deliver a Digital Inclusion Project in our communities. We are seeking a part Time Digital Inclusion Community Worker to join our Community Regeneration team. The post is funded initially for 1 year, 2 days per week (14 hours) and will provide informal digital learning opportunities in community venues to local people.

The aim of the project is to reduce social isolation and increase economic prospects for participants. You will work alongside our partners to ensure a sustainable approach to digital inclusion, providing practical digital support to participants and developing a legacy for the project.

You will have experience of providing informal learning experiences to people in communities (paid or voluntary). You will have a sound understanding of the barriers to digital inclusion and have relevant experience to support participants to overcome these. You will be passionate about the benefits that digital services and equipment can have on improving and enhancing lives. Experience of using a variety of digital equipment, software, and the internet and the ability to support people to use digital at a basic level.

Externally, you’ll share the work Thenue does to provide quality homes and stronger communities where people want to live.

The post holder will also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Thenue’s communications campaigns across all available channels. You will be someone that understands the importance of engaging storytelling and who is excited about and experienced in using digital communication opportunities alongside traditional approaches.

You should be a positive, creative, team player working across all areas of the business. You’ll have a professional qualification or experience in communications, journalism or a related subject; knowledge of working with content management system software; good knowledge of publication processes, including planning and digital publishing and visual/design aptitude.

You should have awareness of media law issues, FOI, GDPR and the general media landscape in Scotland as well as a knowledge of the National Standards of Community Engagement; ability to work with tact, discretion and diplomacy and deal with matters of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature; excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write and edit accurately, high quality copy and other forms of correspondence bespoke to the recipient or audience; experience of implementing communication strategies in relation to ongoing or planned incidents/events or operation. You should be able to prioritise work tasks under pressure and meet tight deadlines, exercise initiative and work independently as appropriate.

The Board is responsible for running the Association’s affairs and plays an important role in developing our various communities. It provides strategic leadership, sets objectives, exercises scrutiny and monitors and evaluates the organisation’s business in order to deliver continued improvements for our customers.

We wish to recruit 2 new Board Members and are seeking dynamic, highly motivated, and innovative individuals. We are particularly keen to hear from people with skills, knowledge and experience as follows:

  • Financial Management– with a Board member with significant experience in this area coming to the end of their term in September 2024, now is the right time to seek to recruit in this area so there is a true succession for the Board.
  • Governance- good governance is at heart of our organisation, and we seek to recruit an individual that can strengthen us further in this area into the future.

Diverse Boards are vital to our ongoing success and we particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups. There are generally 10 meetings a year including our Business Planning Event. Remote access to the meetings is available, but there is an expectation to attend some of these meetings in person during the year.

This role is voluntary and unpaid with reasonable out of pocket expenses being paid. Support will be given in the role through ongoing training, development and mentoring.

The People and Culture team consists of 5 staff members and is responsible for HR, corporate services and compliance, governance support, customer care, performance monitoring, communication and PR, office management, and health and safety.

This post will be based mainly in the Netherholm Community Hall where we are seeking an experienced and skilled Community Development Worker to help develop the centre, its groups and the wider community. This post is externally funded by Glasgow City Council’s ‘Glasgow Community Fund’.
