This is an exciting time for the Parkinson’s UK Scotland team. Thanks to recent investment in our charitable work,we are growing our network of local advisers so we can reach as many people as possible affected by the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. We want to make meaningful differences to the lives of people with Parkinson’s and that of their family and friends, and have people join our larger team that works together to support the Parkinson’s community right across the country.
We have three roles available, all at 35 hours per week, covering :
About the role
You’ll empower your clients to take actions for themselves or will advocate on their behalf for better service, support and outcomes, so they can live their life with Parkinson's in the way they choose.
You’ll deliver tailored information and support through a range of channels including telephone, video and email and, where appropriate, home visits and working in community settings.
You’ll be responsible for building excellent relationships with healthcare professionals and other relevant agencies, as well as our existing network of volunteers and groups.

This role will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You’ll be required to apply for one; refusal to do so will result in the offer being withdrawn.

• live in the area specified, hold a full UK driving licence and be able to travel freely and flexibly around these areas and occasionally further afield without reliance on public transport

When people live with a complex condition like Parkinson’s, they need access to high quality local health and care services that meet all their needs. To make that a reality, we work directly with the NHS to improve services for everyone with Parkinson’s across the UK. We’ll support people to make sure they get the best care possible. We’ll educate non specialist health care professionals so they better understand the condition. We’ll help people navigate the system and provide the information people need to demand better care.

About the role
You’ll build relationships to influence improvement in care and support services across Scotland, and support the development of a vibrant national network, working in collaboration with the Professional Engagement team and the regional Parkinson’s Excellence Network leads. You’ll also work with health and care professionals and Parkinson’s UK colleagues to respond to any threats to Parkinson's services and effect positive change to address them..
You’ll use your quality improvement expertise to support health & care professionals with change projects and programmes, equipping them with the latest tools, resources, evidence and data to develop and improve services for people with Parkinson’s.
What you’ll do:
Support health and care service redesign and improvement projects in collaboration with clinicians, Parkinson’s UK staff and people living with Parkinson’s and drawing on the principles of co-production
Support health & care services to develop and implement service improvement plans, using the results of the UK Parkinson's Audit and the Scotland Services report as a lever
Promote the Excellence Network funding opportunities, providing support where appropriate with the development of business cases and grant applications from NHS or Health and Social Care Teams across Scotland
Respond to threats to services in collaboration with the area teams, people with Parkinson’s and health and care professionals
What you’ll bring:
Experience and expertise in service redesign and effecting change within health and/or social care, and knowledge of health and care structures and commissioning across Scotland
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and manage successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including nurses, allied health care professionals and clinicians
Ability to negotiate and influence, with strong report writing and presentation skills, with experience in the use of quality improvement and project management tools
Ability to work collaboratively with people with Parkinson's, their care partners and health and social care professionals. Experience of co-production is desirable
Ability to analyse data and evidence to support service improvement and the development of business cases

You’ll be responsible for driving forward the charity’s plans and activity, working with the vision and reflecting the needs of our communities in Scotland. You’ll grow, facilitate and inspire a movement of people that has a positive impact both locally and nationally.
You’ll lead collaboration, joint planning, shared ownership and delivery of our work to develop a people powered movement, uniting behind a vision of improving the lives of everyone affected by Parkinson's in Scotland.
We’ll consider applications for those wishing to work 28 hours a week.

About the role
You’ll be the lead for communications for Parkinson’s UK Scotland, working across traditional and digital media channels to motivate people to understand, care and take action about Parkinson’s. You’ll also keep our staff, volunteers and the Parkinson’s community informed about our work in Scotland and across the UK.
You’ll be an integral member of our dynamic Scotland team as well as working collaboratively with colleagues across the UK on all areas of the charity’s work including policy, community development activities, research and fundraising.

In this key position, you will work closely with the Scotland Advisory Group and lead a multi-disciplined team of staff and volunteers to benefit the 12,000 plus families living with Parkinson’s in Scotland, supporting the charity’s overall strategy
As an ambassador, you will represent the charity and raise the profile of our work whilst building proactive relationships with key stakeholders to influence policy and service improvement.
You will lead our work to deliver our goals in the “Better support every day” theme of our strategy. Our objective is that ‘All people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones get the right care, support and opportunities to live as well as possible at every stage of the condition’.
Our strategy was set pre pandemic, but all of the insight, evidence and feedback we have from the Parkinson’s community in Scotland and across the rest of the UK demonstrates to us that our priorities are focussing on the right areas, and how urgent the need is to accelerate our work and deliver increased impact for people with Parkinson’s.
What you’ll bring
To be successful, you will be a skilled communicator and a strategic thinker able to translate ideas and concepts into projects and plans. You will have a good understanding of the political context of health and social care policy, the health service in Scotland and have an awareness of current issues surrounding disability, particularly in the field of neurological conditions. Knowledge of relevant health and social care structures in both the statutory and voluntary sectors and experience of successfully working with the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government is essential also.
An authentic leader who empowers and enables staff and volunteers to give of their best you will be able to inspire and motivate people to support our work in Scotland and have a passion for involving people with Parkinson’s in all aspects of our work. A good understanding of local media is essential, preferably with experience as a confident spokesperson.
You must be flexible with your daily schedule and be able and willing to travel around the country without reliance on public transport and willing to travel around the UK as required for the role. If you are driving, you need to have held your full driving licence for a minimum of one year. The position will be based from your home and you must live within Scotland.

About Parkinson’s Active
Parkinson’s Active is a physical activity project funded by the Lottery. The project aims to increase the number of opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to become active in their local community. Current research suggests physical activity at the right level of intensity can help people to live well with the condition. Working with leisure providers the project will upskill instructors, coaches & volunteers to provide suitable activity sessions for people with Parkinson’s while raising awareness of the importance of activity and the opportunities available amongst health professionals and people with Parkinson’s.
About the role
You’ll support our national project to ensure that people living with the condition are aware of the benefits of both physical activity and exercise on their wellbeing and symptoms. You’ll provide critical support to the Parkinson’s Active project through delivering administration and project support.
You’ll create strong working relationships with the Project Officer and Scotland as well as colleagues across the UK.
