The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh, is a charitable organisation for business and professional people which is dedicated to supporting the young and the elderly. Nowadays usually known as The Merchant Company, it has been enriching the life of Scotland’s capital for more than 300 years. The Merchant Company’s original purpose was to protect trading rights in the City of Edinburgh. Today, over 540 businessmen and women are Members of the Company, actively involved at the heart of the city in educational and charitable works, as well as continuing to hold a central role in the civic life of Edinburgh. The Company is also Scotland’s most pre-eminent livery company. Our headquarters, the beautiful Merchants’ Hall, is one of Edinburgh’s hidden jewels, and is available to hire as a unique venue.

We are currently seeking a skilled and dynamic individual to join our Development Team. This key role will focus on fostering and developing lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups, including Watsonians, pupils, parents, donors and staff, alongside the management of our stakeholder (CRM) database, Raiser’s Edge.

Reporting to the Head of Development, you will be a highly personable and organised team player who possesses outstanding communication and relationship-building skills (including across print, digital and social media). The ability to help plan and deliver innovative events is essential and should come with experience and expertise in managing a CRM database, as well as an understanding of prospect research and fundraising.

Whilst direct experience of a similar development or membership role is essential, we are equally keen to hear from applicants who have the right skill-set and are looking for a new challenge.

This is a full time, year round post with the requirement for some evening and weekend work, as well as travel within Scotland and the UK. Flexibility is therefore required.
