Crail Museum and Heritage Centre is seeking to appoint trustees to build the capacity and resources of the Board. Successful candidates will work alongside the officers, fellow Board members, staff and volunteers to play a key role in our continuing development.
The Museum, formed over 40 years ago, provides an insight into the past life of this ancient Royal Burgh, its kirk, seafaring tradition, Crail Golfing Society (founded in 1786 - the 7th oldest in the world) and airfield history from the First World War until its closure in 1960 (HMS Jackdaw, Fleet Air Arm Station, HMS Bruce Boys Training School and Joint Services School for Linguists).
Our exhibitions are augmented by special topics explored in more detail and changed regularly so there is always at least one new exhibition every year.
Crail has been a prosperous and important trading and fishing port since the 12th century, and its picturesque harbour is one of the most frequent images in Scottish calendars and guides. Today there is still commercial fishing from the harbour for crab and lobster which have a reputation for quality. The Burgh is surrounded by excellent farming land.
About the Role
This is a voluntary position with great scope for personal and professional development. You will help us to shape the future of our organisation. The role involves sharing responsibility for museum operations, strategy and planning, marketing, exhibition and archive management, finance and governance.
Term of Appointment: Trustees retire annually, and may be re-elected
Location: Preferably located in the East Neuk of Fife
Time commitment: Around 10 days per year, mainly comprising; preparation for and attendance at Board Meetings, operations and other governance and strategic activities subject to the needs of the organisation.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
All applications are appreciated. We are keen to attract people with knowledge or experience in the following areas. These are desirable and not exclusive:
• Operations management
• Exhibition curation and archive management
• Finance and/or planning
• Understanding of the governance of a Charity or Development Trust
Applicants should have a strong interest in East Neuk Heritage
