The East Dunbartonshire Initiative for Creative Therapy & Social Care (EDICT) was established in 1997 to address a need identified by the newly formed East Dunbartonshire local authority. The service offered by the organisation was devised to provide therapeutic support for individuals with mental health difficulties and their carers.
For over a twenty-two years EDICT has provided services for the local authority, health board and worked in partnership with a number of grant funding agencies. The organisation provides this support through the use of creative therapies in both group and 1:1 settings. During this time the service has been extended to provide support to participants with early stage dementia, brain injury, physical disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder.
Through focussed intervention by qualified therapists EDICT aims to promote increased levels of self esteem, reduce stress and reduce the effects of social isolation. This intervention motivates participants to focus on their own health, both physical and emotional, and encourages the process of self nurture. The focus on participants inherent creativity provides them with an opportunity to share experiences and offer mutual support in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.
EDICT is developing the therapeutic sessions which support children and young adults on the autism spectrum. This post will provide support for the children and young adults within our art studio under the direction of the project manager. This post is funded for three years.
