Charity registered in Scotland SC050147
Signpost International SCIO is a Christian charity committed to tackling the root causes of poverty and inequality, both locally and internationally. Our work focuses on four themes of: food security; sustainable livelihoods; water and sanitation; and global citizenship.
In March 2021, we launched the Roundhouse Community Kitchen which transforms usable, surplus food from supermarkets, greengrocers, farms, and other providers into freshly prepared, nutritious meals that are redistributed to third-sector food providers within Dundee. These organisations then distribute the meals to people engaging with their services, either as part of an emergency food parcel or at an open-door larder session. We believe education plays a critical role in driving sustainable positive change & so alongside these activities we welcome school & community groups to the Roundhouse to provide them with a hands-on practical learning experience on issues which impact us all.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to deliver our local food education and community-based programmes to a broad range of people but with a strong focus on school children. Within three years our project seeks to improve the long-term health and wellbeing of the community of Whitfield Dundee by:
• Utilising surplus foods to produce and distribute healthy and nutritious meals to those who need through foodbanks and larders.
• Engaging children across pre-school, primary, & secondary settings to improve their food & nutrition intake via practical experiences, outreach sessions, & ongoing support work both in their place of learning & within our centre, The Roundhouse, a short walk from the schools.
• Delivering practical workshops & awareness-raising sessions to key sections of the community at The Roundhouse, enhancing skills & confidence, & encouraging behavioural change around food growing & healthy eating.
Workshops for all ages will focus on growing, preparing, cooking, & preserving fresh food on a budget alongside food & nutrition information sessions. We want to equip our community with the tools to sustainably feed themselves. This is an exciting chance to build on and shape existing activities while developing new opportunities to positively impact the lives of many.
Candidates will ideally have experience working with young people and different groups in educational settings, be enthusiastic about justice, climate, and food issues, and be passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals and in the world. A good deal of creativity will be needed for the role, and the successful candidate will need to be a self-starter able to lead on a variety of tasks. We value our people and are more interested in the individual than a candidate ticking every box, so even if you don’t yet have all the skills but are a committed, enthusiastic person with a passion for good food, for justice, and for making a real difference in people’s lives we would love to hear from you.
Signpost International is a Dundee-based community development agency. Inspired by our Christian faith we work in partnership with local organisations at home and abroad to support individuals & communities to be the drivers of their own change. With education as a cross-cutting theme we focus our projects across four key areas: Food security; Sustainable livelihoods; Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (WASH); and Global citizenship.
While much of our work over the past three decades has focused on overseas programmes, in recent years we have grown and strengthened our domestic activities to include a Global Citizenship Education programme and more recently a food security & food waste programme from our base at the Roundhouse in Dundee. Our vision is for an equitable world where poverty and injustice are eliminated, people thrive and communities flourish; for this to be realised we need to have sufficient supporters to sustain and grow our programmes to meet the needs of the communities in which we work at home and abroad. Last year our projects positively impacted the lives of more than 31,000 people globally – a figure anticipated to increase this year.
This is an exciting and central role within the organisation with responsibility for the design and delivery of Signpost International’s Communications Strategy to strengthen existing relationships and bring on board new supporters. This includes co-ordinating and producing promotional material in print and digital formats, media liaison, representing the organisation to a range of audiences, and ensuring communications reflect the ethos and values of Signpost International.
We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our small core team of staff and volunteers who are at the heart of all we do. We value our people and are more interested in the individual than a candidate ticking every box, so even if you don’t yet have all the skills but are a committed, enthusiastic person with a passion for justice and making a real difference in people’s lives we would love to hear from you.
It is an occupational requirement working with Signpost International within the provisions of the Equality Act 2010 that the Communications Officer is a practising Christian as the role involves regularly talking at churches and with Faith leaders and other spiritual activities of a Christian nature.

With education as a cross-cutting theme we focus our projects across four key areas: Food security; Sustainable livelihoods; Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (WASH); and Global citizenship. Overseas we currently support programmes in Uganda and Kenya, with plans to expand into a third country during 2023.
While much of our work over the past three decades has focused on overseas programmes, since 2006 we have grown and strengthened our domestic activities to include a Global Citizenship Education programme and more recently a food security & food waste programme from our base at the Roundhouse in Dundee. Our vision is to create a unique hub within this space, inspiring young people & demonstrating sustainable living in a contextually relevant manner.
The principal role will be to support our partner organisations to develop, deliver, and evaluate a range of community development programmes in East Africa. As Overseas Desk Officer you will work with a portfolio of programmes, partnerships, and donors, ensuring each project is aligned with stakeholder and funder requirements and report to them appropriately. You will design and develop appropriate working practices with our partners in line with our vision, mission, strategy, and principles. Working with the Chief Executive you will ensure that project budgets are well constructed and managed, and that project targets are well defined and delivered in a timely fashion within agreed frameworks, and that impact is communicated, and learning is shared.
