Operating from our centre at 188 Pleasance, the Pregnancy and Parents Centre is a friendly and welcoming not-for-profit organisation that works with parents-to-be and families in Edinburgh. We offer practical and emotional support to enable all expectant parents, parents and their families to experience pregnancy, birth and parenthood with confidence. Everyone is welcome, whatever your circumstances, background, sexual orientation, family makeup or beliefs. Many of our services are free and our sessions are run on a donation basis or a sliding scale of fees so we never turn anyone away due to financial constraint. We also strive to make sure our classes are accessible to parents and parents-to-be with particular needs. We provide a variety of sessions, workshops and drop-in groups plus a range of other services and resources.

Coordinator (Finance) - Job Share Position

The Pregnancy and Parents Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and aims to support over 400 families per week by groups, classes, workshops and support groups for pregnancy and new parents as well as a host of other services and resources. We are based at 188 Pleasance, Edinburgh and have been continually supporting families since 1985.

Due to a staff restructure we are creating a job share post to work alongside our coordinator. The successful applicant will oversee finance and governance as well as supporting the day to day management of our centre.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in finance and bookkeeping and will have an understanding of financial forecasting and budgeting.

You will work closely with our present coordinator, be part of a small, friendly team and report to our board of trustees whilst building a close working partnership with our volunteer management accountant.

Fundraising Administrator - short term contract

We are recruiting for a fundraising administrator position from August 2022 until March 2023.

This post is for 14 hours per week (two days per week). The successful applicant will work from home but with an initial period of working at our office in Pleasance, Edinburgh so that a rounded understanding of our organisation can be gained by the successful applicant.

The successful candidate will have experience in fundraising and have an ability to work on your own initiative and manage deadlines.

You will be part of a small, friendly team and report to our board of trustees on a monthly basis and build a close working partnership with our charity coordinator, office team and with the trustee responsible for finance and fundraising.

We are recruiting for a Marketing & Communications position to cover maternity leave.

Ideally we would like this position to commence on 1st May 2022 but there is some flexibility in the start date depending on circumstances.

This post is from 1st May 2022 to 9th January 2023 and is for 14 hours per week (two days per week). The successful applicant can work a hybrid pattern of at our centre and from home, depending on the priorities of the role at any given time.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the basic principles of marketing and communications - including channels, audience segmentation, product proposition and crafting engaging messaging. The role might suit a marketing or communications undergraduate in second year or above. This is a good opportunity to gain some paid

experience in a grassroots organisation.

You must have the ability to work on your own initiative and manage deadlines.

DUTIES

The Marketing & Communications Administrator at the Pregnancy and Parents Centre is responsible for developing the profile of the PPC, including enhancing the PPC community, fundraising initiatives, promoting the services of the PPC and engaging in influencing conversations within the broader community in which we operate. Due to the nature of the services of the centre, hours worked may need to be managed flexibly, and some evening and / or weekend work may be needed.

Promotion and Marketing

  • Manage the PPC’s digital presence, including website and social media channels
  • Market and promote activities and advertise spaces in groups as well as build an increased awareness of the PPC to new users.
  • Maintain and enhance the community of current and previous users of the PPC’s services, to foster a strong base of support for the centre and its services, potentially to include fundraising opportunities
  • Implement the PPC’s marketing and outreach strategy, including developing and circulating marketing materials, and identifying new routes by which to attract families to the centre
  • Maintain databases (PPC, Mailchimp etc)
  • Blogs on FB/website/instagram/twitter, sharing articles and notice boards / marketing inside the centre and identifying awareness days/weeks that are relevant to our work.
  • Market our fundraising activities
  • Implement and promote other fundraising initiatives e.g. ‘Friends of PPC’ scheme, micro-donations, promotion of ‘Give as you Live’ subscriptions if currently live.
  • Manage and positively develop relationships with key benefactors or those who donate-in-kind

External Relations

  • Be the first point of contact for other community organisations with which the PPC should be liaising or collaborating

Other responsibilities

  • Prepare a monthly report to the Board of Trustees outlining marketing and communications activity.
  • On occasion, attend Trustees' Meetings on behalf of the Marketing / Comms role.
  • Attend office meetings to ensure continued collaborative working within the office team.
  • Contribution to the design elements of the trustees Annual Report.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people using a range of different communication styles, including in-person, digitally, individually and with groups
  • Ability to show empathy but also maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Good organisational skills
  • Experience of digital marketing and promotion, including social media campaigns
  • Strong digital literacy skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage busy workload
  • Ability to work on own initiative

Desirable skills

  • Experience of working within third sector organisation(s)
  • Experience maintaining good relationships and nurturing partnerships with external organisations
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding childbirth, social inclusion, maternal health & family rights
