We are a vibrant community-led organisation in South East Edinburgh whose aim is to enable people to learn, work and grow together to create a flourishing community and place, The Community Engagement Officer will engage a wide diversity of people from our surrounding areas of benefit in a range of activities, services and events, supporting their participation in local community research and in democratic decision making processes within Bridgend Farmhouse and the wider community. The post-holder will have access to a budget for sessional tutors, volunteer training, and materials to support the activities and will be involved in events at Bridgend Farmhouse and in supporting and signposting volunteers.
To apply you will need a professional qualification and strong track record in community development or community education, as well as good experience of managing volunteers and sessional workers. You will be skilled in engaging, motivation and supporting community participants from diverse backgrounds and in creating strong working partnerships with a wide range of organisations and groups. You’ll be an excellent team player, and well able to take the initiative so as to plan, prioritise, implement and administer your own work. Experience of community research, monitoring and evaluation would be an advantage.
This new post is funded until 31st March 2022 through the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities Programme, which is designed to support community and third sector organisations in disadvantaged communities to develop and deliver sustainable local solutions that reduce poverty, inequality and disadvantage and enable inclusive growth.

Our new post of Skills Development Coordinator will support disadvantaged young people (aged 16 to 25) and socially isolated adults across our community of benefit to have better life chances. The role involves recruiting and supporting individuals from the target groups to develop practical, social, emotional, literacy and/or creative skills that enable them to play their part in a connected and inclusive community. The post holder will coordinate and develop learning, training and volunteering opportunities for participants, according to individual needs and goals.
To apply you will need a strong track record in community development and/or skills development, and experience of managing volunteers and sessional workers. You will be competent in building strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders. You will have experience of facilitating the delivery of nationally recognised qualifications either directly or working in partnership with an external provider. You will used to working with people in peer-led and informal education settings. If you are also self-motivated, well-organised, and have digital, monitoring and evaluation skills, this may be the post for you.

This is a pivotal role, with overall responsibility for the development, operations and sustainability of Bridgend Farmhouse’s community facing activities, volunteering and external partnerships. Bridgend Farmhouse is relatively young as a fully constituted and staffed organisation, but has its origins in community development activities dating back over ten years. We are looking for someone to lead the organisation in the next crucial stage of its development as we seek to diversify our sources of funding and increase the impact we achieve in our Area of Benefit. We need a highly organised, resilient self-starter for this challenging but very rewarding role.
To apply it is essential that you have a recognised qualification in community education or community development. You will have a strong track record of operational and project management in a comparable setting, and be competent and confident in managing budgets and financial performance. You will have excellent people management skills and a record of creating strong working partnerships with organisations, community groups and volunteers. Experience of working to a board of voluntary directors and of monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outcomes is also essential.
