We currently have an exciting and rare vacancy for a Senior Development Trainer (SDT) to lead one of our wilderness journey teams, based in Stirling and delivering progressive personal development journeys for participants from across Scotland.
The SDT is responsible to the Operations Resource Manager for ensuring the safe and effective planning and delivery of personal development wilderness experiences, including review and quality assurance of all activities, projects and expeditions in accordance with our Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs), risk assessments and health and safety legislation. The successful candidate will be required to lead a team of Development Trainers to supervise participants throughout their wilderness journey, delivering one-to-one and group work sessions focusing on areas such as wellbeing, personal development, consequential thinking and goal setting. The successful candidate will also lead on the maintenance, checking and monitoring of kit and equipment relevant to all operations.
Applicants must hold a minimum of four valid and relevant qualifications of recognised unit status, such as Summer ML, Rock Climbing Instructor and BC Moderate Water Coach or Moderate Water Leader (Canoe), plus a recognised First Aid Certificate. Knowledge of current Health & Safety law, outdoor activity licensing best practice, and procedures relevant to wilderness outdoor work. Experience of working with disadvantaged people in a wilderness, urban or residential setting, is also essential. In addition, applicants must have the ability to lead a team effectively, setting appropriate professional standards for others and to deliver personal development programmes confidently and safely. Undertaking operation of recording systems, checking vehicles and outdoor equipment, and a driving licence (D1+E) are also essential requirements of this role.
Ideal candidates will have aa Winter ML have or be working towards their Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor or equivalent. They will be an APIOL holder or working towards this. A degree in a relevant subject is considered desirable, as is formal training or certification in Choice Theory/Reality Therapy or another theory of psychological growth and development.

The successful candidate will have experience of implementing communication and marketing strategies, demonstratable experience in delivering or overseeing media communications and excellent knowledge of developing campaigns, messaging and maintaining websites and social media channels. Additionally, the successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload, working under pressure to tight deadlines, and manage projects. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of UK online, print and broadcast media and experience of common graphic and design software packages e.g. Canva, Adobe Indesign. Staff line management or supervisory experience would be an advantage. The Outdoor Therapy Service is offered mostly outdoors in urban greenspaces, and on occasion online. It is initially aimed at clients aged 16-25 years old and ex-service personnel of any age, clients who may benefit from the kind of exploration and reflection gained through individual (and sometimes group) therapy
Successful candidates will be therapists registered with an appropriate professional body who can work thoughtfully and ethically with a client group that can have complex clinical presentations. They will be able to work individually to meet the specific needs of their clients whilst maintaining high professional standards. They will have personal experience of outdoor environments and will have the capacity to articulate the reasoning behind working therapeutically in natural environments. They will be able to work reflectively and effectively within a team and be committed to working towards the aims of the service and the organisation.
Ideal candidates will have experience of facilitating therapeutic groups and reflective spaces and experience of training other professionals, particularly mental health professionals. They will have specific experience of the client groups that Venture Trust engages with, for example, with hard-to-reach young people, homelessness, forensic clients, and have training and experience of working with complex trauma presentations. • work in the community with participants predominately aged 16-40 from various backgrounds
• deliver high quality participant support across the range of Venture Trust programmes
• engage with participants in dynamic and progressive community and wilderness-based personal development opportunities

The Funding and Partnerships Manager role is integral to the success of Venture Trust’s fundraising strategy working with a range of partners across the public and private sector including a range of Trusts & Foundations.
