Positive Help was set up in 1989 in response to requests for day to day assistance from those living with HIV in the Edinburgh area. Since then, our services have developed to meet the changing needs and increasing number of our clients. Our original purpose remains the same, though the range of people we support has broadened. We now give free practical support to adults and families living with HIV and Hepatitis C in and around Edinburgh. Our services are offered by volunteers and we have a small staff team dedicated to ensuring that volunteers and service users are supported.

Volunteer and Community Engagement Lead

The Volunteer and Community Engagement Lead is a brand new dedicated role for our charity. You will motivate people to join Positive Help as volunteers, support them and ensure they feel valued. You will also enable those with lived experience to be part of our co-production and engagement groups and ensure the local community is aware of Positive Help. The role will be an annualised hours contract giving flexibility to the hours worked each week. It will include evening and weekend work depending on what you plan for events you run or attend to promote our opportunities.

Positive Help is looking for a proactive individual to join our team as our new Administrator or Admin Ninja.

This position is for someone who has excellent organisational and communication skills and who wants to help people, and our organisation thrive. You will be responsible for managing Positive Help's administration and financial systems, which in turn enables people living with HIV and Hepatitis C to access treatment and support.

The Administrator is an important member of our small staff team. You will communicate with a wide variety of people including Service Users, volunteers, and professionals making referrals. The administrator is actively involved in our Supportive Transport service taking lift requests and confirming lift details with service users over the phone. You will be supporting volunteers through reimbursing their expenses and communicating what we do on social media so there is variety in the role.

Support Officer

As Support Officer you be helping people living with HIV and Hepatitis to improve their health and wellbeing. You will build relationships with people, understand their needs and arrange the support that Positive Help can deliver. You will be involved in organising the practical support of our volunteer transport service to help people on their journey to recovery and health.

The role involves creating driving schedules for our volunteers to get people to their appointments, communicating on the phone with those who use our services, and visiting them in their homes.

You will be part of a small team of 7 amazing staff and working with up to 70 fantastic volunteers across all services.

Adult Services Manager

Positive Help is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our small team as Adult Services Manager. This exciting new position is for someone who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to lead and motivate people. You will be responsible for building strong positive relationships with adult service users and volunteers and liaising with statutory and voluntary organisations.

The Manager has responsibility for developing and delivering Positive Help’s Supportive Transport and new Live Well programme to adults living with HIV and Hepatitis C.

Children’s Services Co-ordinator

You will see the difference you are making every day. This very rewarding role will enable you to develop supportive relationships with families who face severe disadvantages.

You will co-ordinate amazing volunteers to support children affected by and living with HIV and Hepatitis C in the Lothians. You will directly support parents and families and manage volunteers to support the children and young people through our Study Buddies and Befriending services.

This exciting position is for someone who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to lead and motivate volunteers. You will be responsible for building strong positive relationships with children, young people and their families and also with teachers, social workers and other charity workers.

The Children’s Services Co-ordinator is involved in recruiting and training volunteers working in partnership with other staff members. They will line manage the brand new role of Volunteer Engagement Lead to help ensure Positive Help has a good team of volunteers.

Positive Help is committed to delivering person-centred and trauma-informed services and enabling Service Users to achieve their personal outcomes and staff are fully trained in how we do this.

Positive Help welcomes staff with shared values with the aims of the organisation. A professional qualification is not required. Full induction training is provided, and support will continue throughout your time with us. This includes internal and external training, regular Individual and Group Support and Supervision.
