Newsdirect’s Scottish political monitoring team is recruiting a new Account Manager to monitor and report on
developments across parliament and government institutions. In this client-facing role, you’ll provide our
clients with everything they need to know about the forward political agenda. You’ll help them spot
opportunities to engage with policymakers and ensure they go into meetings with all the key political facts at
their fingertips.
Our monitoring team tracks all the crucial sources of parliamentary, government and political news with a particular
focus on the devolved institutions. In this role, you’ll quickly develop campaign insight, gain real-time policy
knowledge and work for award-winning public affairs teams.
Hours & Contract
- 37.5 hours per week, Mon – Fri, 08:00 – 16:30
- Permanent position with a 3-month traineeship/probationary
period and a mid-year salary review
Salary scales:
- Account Manager: £20,000 – £23,000 + overtime
- Senior Account Manager: £23,000 – £26,000 +
overtime
- Paid overtime (x 1.5), remote working, employer pension contribution
- 29 days leave
(including bank holidays) plus festive shutdown
Duties will include:
- Sifting and scanning information to compile into daily and weekly monitoring reports
- Managing
relationships with client contacts and maintaining regular communication to ensure their requirements are being
met
- Writing summaries (from a livestream) of parliamentary proceedings and government
briefings
- Tracking and advising on developments within your topic portfolio, identifying new business
opportunities and developing services
- Reporting from party conferences and attending policy and
networking events as required
- Providing a helpful and responsive helpdesk service for client
requests
Person Specification
We’d like to hear from candidates who:
- Can convey the significant points in a political discussion clearly and accurately in plain English
- Have an interest in political communication and some relevant knowledge and skills gained through study, internships or in the workplace
- Can demonstrate an excellent knowledge of current parliamentary issues and devolved procedures
- Can produce accurate work to newsroom deadlines and support colleagues to do the same
- Can build client relationships and meet customer expectations in a commercial environment
