Children and Young Peoples Domestic Abuse Worker

Job Purpose

To provide the highest possible standard of support to children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. Carry out all work to the highest possible standards in accordance with professional ethics, Angus Women’s Aid (AWA) policies and procedures, National Care Standards and other relevant legislation.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Assess needs of individual children and young people who access AWARE services.
  • Carry out robust risk assessments and regular reviews.
  • Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of individual support and group work offered to children and young people who use AWA services.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of recreational opportunities for children and young people who use the AWA outreach service.
  • Contribute to maintaining and developing a positive and supportive atmosphere within AWA and good public relations out with the organisation.

Job Activities

  • To act as a ‘key worker’, providing practical and emotional support for children and young people who have experienced Domestic Abuse.
  • To work in partnership with other agencies to maximise the support and services available to children and young people e.g. schools, social work, and health agencies.
  • To work with colleagues and relevant partners in the planning, running and evaluation of group work programmes for children and young people.
  • To prepare relevant reports for Children’s Panels, court proceeding and case conferences when necessary.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records in accordance with AWA policy.
  • To plan and deliver age appropriate play/recreational opportunities for children and young people.

Other

  • Actively participate in support and supervision, team meetings and interagency meetings.
  • Utilise AWARE recording systems and carry out all work to the highest possible professional standards and in accordance with AWA policies and procedures.
  • Take personal responsibility for continuing professional development.
  • To contribute to the evaluation of the AWA service.
  • Participate in effective communication systems within the team.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere within AWA.
