Advocacy Worker

We are looking for bright, dynamic individuals who are committed to the principles of equalities and human rights to join our team.

The Advocacy Project has over 28 years’ experience in empowering individuals to know their rights and be involved in decisions that affect their lives. We have built a strong reputation advocating for people affected by the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007. We have recently received additional funding to work with those navigating the Self-directed Support process and those affected by alcohol and drug misuse.

As a learning organisation, we are proud of the investment that we put into our staff and the opportunities provided to develop skills and talent within the workplace.

We are now recruiting for the position of Advocacy Worker. The successful candidate will be offered a robust induction programme, and will receive work-based learning and development to work towards completing the accredited Professional Practice Award in Independent Advocacy (SCQF rated level 7).

Following completion of the Professional Practice Award, the salary scale increases.

This is a key role within the organisation, working with your Business Support colleagues you will ensure the administration and office management of The Advocacy Project will run efficiently and effectively. This role includes a shared involvement and responsibility for ongoing organisational improvement projects such as quality assurance, website development, social media, evaluations, statistical analysis and measuring impact.

The successful candidate will be offered a robust induction programme, and will receive work-based learning and development to work towards completing the accredited Professional Practice Award in Independent Advocacy (SCQF rated level 7).

This role includes co-ordination and facilitation of independent meetings for individuals, carers and other stakeholders for collective and self-advocacy groups. The ideal candidate will creatively use communication support tools and ICT to enhance engagement via consultations, focus groups and evaluations etc. Each project will require a comprehensive report and recommendations to be produced therefore, the ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills.

This role will be involved in organisational and project development as part of the wider operational team.
