Support Worker

Bruntsfield Project is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week temporary supported accommodation service located on Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh. Our 20 service users are male and female homeless individuals with a variety of support needs including substance misuse and mental health issues.

The job

Our main aim is to move service users on from the project and resettle them in the community in a permanent housing option suited to their needs. This is achieved by building supportive relationships with service users and assisting them to tackle the issues that led to their homelessness. The post involves working to a rota that involves backshifts and weekend working.

The candidate

You should be confident in dealing with a homeless client group and have compassion and understanding for the issues homeless people face. You should also either hold an SVQ2 in Health and Social Care or have the willingness to undertake study to achieve this. You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up the post.

Development Worker- Recovery

The service

Resettlement Team covers accommodation and community based services. The services are for people who are or threatened with homelessness and that have complex and multiple needs including significant and comound trauma.

The job

· You will be based in Gilmours Close office but work mainly in the community and will carry a case load.

· You will mainly work in partnership with the Housing First team but may also be required to work with others who use the Resettlement Services.

· You will be working with individuals to help them recover from homelessness and prevent further instances of it.

· You will offer longer appointment times that are both set and flexible and in conjunction with the team and individuals work on the areas of their lives that they want to change.

· You will develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the people who you are supporting.

· You will work mainly Thursday - Monday as per the service rota, you will also take part in the on call rota and work evenings as and when required.

The candidate

· You should have a positive flexible attitude along with SVQ3 in Health and Social Care, the equivalent qualification, or be willing to work towards this.

· You should have previous experience of working in a Housing Support setting

· You should be Highly motivated with excellent communication & organisational skills

· You will have the ability and initiative to work on a lone working basis and you will have a flexible approach to the service requirements

Tayside Community Recovery Service provides one-to-one and group support to individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol addiction. We use an asset based approach to support people to make positive changes to improve their wellbeing. We provide support to reduce the impact of drug and alcohol addiction on individuals, families and the wider community.

We are looking to recruit a Project Worker to join our Drug and Alcohol Community Recovery Service.

The Project Worker will:

  • Provide one-to-one support and deliver group activities that will motivate people to make positive changes in their lives and support their recovery from drug and alcohol dependence;
  • Work closely with those in recovery to develop activities and initiatives that support people to be active in their local community and build new skills to move on with their lives.

You Will

  • Be educated to SCQF Level 7, SVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject;
  • Have experience of working with people on a one-to-one basis as well as experience in designing and facilitating groups;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Have experience of working in partnership with a range of agencies to support an individual;
  • Be self-motivated and able to work under your own initiative in community settings.
