Strategic Lead - Volunteering

Delivering the first Volunteer Strategy for South Ayrshire through strong leadership, focusing on building relationships through consensus and collaboration

Main purpose job:

Lead on the creation and implementation of an effective Volunteer Strategy for South Ayrshire by supporting the implementation of the Scottish Government’s Volunteering Framework, working closely with partners and stakeholders, and contributing to the organisation’s wider Business Plan.

Main tasks:

  • As the Strategic Lead partner VASA work closely with South Ayrshire Council, the Health & Social Care Partnership, Third Sector representatives, community groups and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the first Volunteer Strategy for South Ayrshire is delivered within the agreed timeframe
  • To unify and create a suitable approach to the way in which organisations manage and support the entire volunteering community across South Ayrshire, acknowledging the different needs and requirements of the organisations
  • To implement processes that will give South Ayrshire’s volunteers and organisations a ‘voice’ e.g. setting up a Volunteer Management forum consisting of volunteer managers from all areas across South Ayrshire to improve volunteer engagement and consultation on a range of matters likely to impact volunteering such as the Volunteer Strategy and Scottish Government Volunteering Framework.
  • To implement systems that will enable us to better understand the wide range of skills and experience that volunteers possess, help them reach their full potential, thus giving our volunteers even greater motivation and satisfaction from their contribution to the community.
  • To build upon the diversity of the South Ayrshire volunteer activity and to identify ways in which we can increase the opportunities for volunteers from across our under-represented groups, i.e. linked to age and ethnicity.
  • To review and update VASA’s Volunteers’ Handbook and the Volunteer’s Policy, ensuring that these documents meet the needs of the organisation and operate consistently across all departments and services.
  • To review all available training provision for volunteer involving groups including induction and annual updates, identifying any gaps in provision, and clarifying mandatory and optional training opportunities

Strategic Lead - Volunteering

VASA are looking for a forward thinking, highly motivated and confident person to lead and develop volunteering across South Ayrshire.

This post will focus on leading the creation and implementation of an effective Volunteer Strategy for South Ayrshire by supporting the Scottish Governments Volunteering Framework and contributing to the organisation’s wider Business Plan, working in partnership with volunteers, H&SCP, Local Authority and other partners.

Your role will also include supporting the Third Sector in South Ayrshire to develop their volunteering capacity and sustainability. You will also be leading a small team of volunteering support staff, managing VASA volunteers as well as the development of the Saltire Awards, helping to instil the values of volunteering within young people.

In order to apply for the post, you must be able to demonstrate that you have the essential skills listed below.

  • 2 years’ minimum experience of creating and significantly contributing to strategic planning processes and successful implementation
  • 3 years’ minimum working knowledge of the Third Sector
  • 2 years’ relevant experience of working with voluntary and volunteer involving groups
  • Educated to higher education level - Degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent report writing and IT skills
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills

Volunteer Coordinator

We need someone who wants to Make a Difference

Do you have the experience of recruiting, training and supporting a team of volunteers?

Do you have the personality to connect and engage with a wide and diverse range of people?

Are you creative, able to attract and motivate volunteers through different media?

Are you comfortable interviewing volunteers and potential beneficiaries via Zoom, What’s App etc.

VASA are looking for a part- time Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, support and match a team of volunteers to two services that are supporting those suffering as a consequence of the COVID lockdown, helping them to regain their confidence and reconnect.

Initially this post is for six months, however it may be extended if proven to be successful and funding is available.

In order to apply please ensure that you can demonstrate you have the essential skills required in your application. These include:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience of supporting volunteers
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working / supporting predominantly older people
  • Have empathic and supportive approach
  • Confident in managing conflict
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to fulfil the requirements for a PVG
  • Ability to plan by setting clear targets, meeting objectives and effectively monitor and evaluate performance
  • Must be able to work additional hours if required
  • Ability to use digital connectivity for example Zoom/Whatsapp/Teams etc.
