This post will support the delivery of Scottish Families’ strategic outcome that ‘Families are a movement for change’, including ongoing delivery of our Connecting Families programme through engagement, design, delivery and evaluation. The post will help increase capacity and create more opportunities for families to influence sustainable change in relation to substance use and recovery. The Connecting Families programme is dynamic and is co-produced with family members, however the role will include initiatives such as our Family Recovery College, tackling stigma, promoting family rights, engaging with peer-led family support groups and networks, and running family and community events.

The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering our national Connecting Families programme, where families drive the development of a families’ recovery movement, including co-producing projects, events and initiatives. This includes supporting the delivery of learning programmes to promote family recovery; engaging and supporting families; supporting families’ voices to be directly heard through a range of platforms; facilitating family engagement and influence in policy, research and service development; and working closely with other social movements, including recovery movements.

This post will support the delivery of the Forth Valley Family Support Service. This includes delivering community-based services that specifically address the needs of families affected by alcohol and drugs.

The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining and delivering a range of support services in Forth Valley to families and support groups affected by someone else’s substance use, ensuring an effective response to the needs of support groups and evaluating and demonstrating the impact of our services.

This includes working with the assistance and support of the Senior Family Support Development Officer to facilitate family support groups; work with individuals on a one to one basis, addressing specific issues; provide advocacy to both support groups and individual family members; and actively promote family recovery and family inclusive practice.

This post will provide the first point of contact for families who contact Scottish Families national Helpline service, and provide appropriate support and information to meet their needs.

The post-holder will be responsible for providing support and information, signposting enquiries, taking referrals and all associated administrative processes associated with Scottish Families’ national Helpline. The Helpline contact will be multi-channel (phone and online communication, including email and webchat). This role is also responsible for delivering an ongoing programme of content revision of Scottish Families’ National Service Directory to ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date, through actively liaising with support services across Scotland. We are seeking a new Board member!

Scottish Families supports anyone who is concerned about someone else’s drug or alcohol use. We were established in 2003 by families themselves, who came together to support each other and to campaign for recognition. Our five Outcomes are that Families are Supported, Included, Recognised, Connected to Communities and a Movement for Change.

We are a national charity based in Glasgow and working right across Scotland. We provide a free national Helpline, one-to-one Telehealth support, bereavement counselling for anyone affected by drug or alcohol related death, and local family support services. We also deliver workforce development, a Connecting Families programme, communications and policy/campaigning work.

We are Scotland’s leading charity supporting families affected by substance use, and are recognised by the Scottish Government as one of their Nationally Commissioned Organisations (NCOs) for alcohol and drugs. We are funded through a combination of Government grants, commissioned services, charitable trusts and fundraising.

To strengthen our Board membership, we are seeking an additional Board member with experience, skills and expertise in tackling inequality and promoting diversity. This follows on from a recent review of our approach to equality and diversity at Scottish Families.

You should be available to attend quarterly meetings. Board meetings are currently being held online via Zoom, but in future we plan to return to a combination of online and in person meetings (at our national office in Glasgow city centre). We are seeking a Befriending and Volunteering Assistant to support the development of a new family befriending project and wider volunteering opportunities with Scottish Families. The befriending project will engage with adult family members (aged 16+ years) who are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use, and be delivered by peer volunteers. This is a new two-year post funded by the Health and Social Care Alliance Self-Management Fund

We are seeking a Policy and Research Assistant to support the policy and research functions within Scottish Families, led by the CEO, aiming to create insight, grow the evidence base, and deliver impact and change to improve outcomes for families affected by alcohol and drugs. The role includes internal and external work with the Scottish Families Team and Board, family members, government, public bodies, politicians, third sector and academic partners.

We are seeking a full-time Business Support Assistant to join our team. This post will provide a full range of business and administrative support to Scottish Families’ staff across the whole organisation, in liaison with the PA to the CEO/Business Support Assistant.

The post-holder will be responsible for assisting in the development, maintenance and implementation of organisational and office systems, including our Salesforce Client Record Management (CRM) system; supporting financial processing systems; providing business support for the Scottish Families team; assisting with event management, including planning and delivery; liaising with partner organisations and family members affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use; and maintaining high levels of confidentiality and discretion.

The post is based at Edward House, Glasgow – Scottish Families’ national office. (Note that staff are currently working between home and office). The post is a national support role and so involves occasional travel and very occasional out-of-hours working for meetings and events. The post is part of the Scottish Families’ staff team, is supervised by the CEO, and involves close liaison with the PA to the CEO/Business Support Assistant.

We are seeking applicants with a minimum of SVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or relevant discipline, with experience of managing corporate correspondence; financial processing, systems and record keeping; office management and event management (planning and delivery). Candidates should have outstanding IT skills including full range of Microsoft packages, be able to produce high quality reports, presentations and other documents; work on own initiative with excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload. Candidates must be able to deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information, and work to a high standard within deadlines and with minimal supervision. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

We are seeking a full-time Family Support Officer to join our team. This post will support the delivery of the Aberdeenshire Family Support Service. This includes delivering community-based services that specifically address the needs of families affected by alcohol and drugs.

The post-holder will be responsible for assisting the Family Support Development Officer – Aberdeenshire to implement developments, maintaining and delivering a range of support services in Aberdeenshire to families and support groups affected by someone else’s substance use, whilst ensuring an effective response to the needs of support groups, and evaluating and demonstrating the impact of our services. The role includes delivering evidence-based interventions, facilitating family support groups, and working with individuals on a one-to-one basis, addressing specific issues and complex needs, with the support of the Family Support Development Officer – Aberdeenshire as required. Responsibilities include working with local service providers to provide a families-inclusive recovery agenda, participating in local partnership forums, maintaining and enhancing family and practitioner networks, and providing advocacy to support groups and individual family members.

The post has a Aberdeenshire-wide remit and will involve significant travel throughout the region and some to our offices in Glasgow. It is expected that the post holder will be required to work some evenings and occasional weekends. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be supervised by the Family Support Development Officer – Aberdeenshire.

We are seeking applicants who are educated to HND level, vocational qualification (level 4) or relevant professional qualification; have experience of direct client work, group work, direct work with families and understanding of the voluntary sector; with knowledge of issues affecting families affected by substance use. We are seeking a full-time Family Inclusive Practice Development Officer to join our team. This post will develop and deliver a Family Inclusive Practice workforce programme with a focus on practice implementation. The role is funded by the Scottish Government to support delivery of the national Whole Family Approach/ Family Inclusive Practice framework (‘Drug and Alcohol Services – Improving holistic family support’).

The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering a new national Family Inclusive Practice workforce programme to external partners, including the alcohol and drug service workforce. The programme aims to embed new practices in alcohol and drug services to allow services to effectively implement new ways of working with clients and their families in line with national policy commitments for families affected by drug and alcohol use in Scotland. The role will also design, deliver and evaluate learning and development activities, including Scottish Families current programme of workforce learning & development; develop and create e-learning including writing content; gather learning from the delivery of the Family Inclusive Practice programme to develop and create Family Inclusive Practice implementation kit; and develop a clear and meaningful national definition of Family Inclusive Practice.

Hours worked will be in line with delivery requirements, including evenings and occasional weekends when required. We are seeking applicants with a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification/ experience, with experience as a learning and development facilitator/trainer, including online and face to face delivery, developing learning content and designing training programmes. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of best practice underpinning effective learning and development activities, and the impact of substance use on families, as well as a high level of presenting skill and the ability to create innovative and engaging content. Strong relationship-building and organisational skills are essential.

The post is supported by a Family Support Assistant, and works in partnership with partner organisations, families and communities. This is a temporary post to cover the secondment of the existing post-holder (12 months in the first instance).

The post is based in Inverclyde (main base: Greenock) and has an area-wide remit involving significant travel throughout the area and some to our offices in Glasgow. It is expected that the post holder will be required to work some evenings and occasional weekends. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be supervised by the Senior Family Support Development Officer.

We are recruiting a Support Assistant – Young People to join our Routes team. This is a temporary 12 month post to cover the maternity leave of the current post-holder. This post supports the delivery of Scottish Families ‘Routes’ Young Persons Project, working alongside young people in East and West Dunbartonshire, to provide a programme of support for 12-26 year olds affected by family alcohol and drug use. The post operates as part of the Routes team led by a Senior Family Support Development Officer and supported by two Development Officers and one other Support Assistant.

The post is located across East and West Dunbartonshire and will involve travel throughout both local authorities. Some home working is involved. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. There will be a close working relationship with young people, schools and local partner agencies in East and West Dunbartonshire. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be managed by the Senior Family Support Development Officer – Young People. There will be a close working relationship with young people and with local partner agencies in East and West Dunbartonshire.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of Scottish Families ‘Routes’ Young Persons Project. This involves working alongside young people in East and West Dunbartonshire to provide a programme of support for 12-26 year olds affected by family alcohol and drug use.

We are seeking applicants who are educated to HNC level, have a vocational qualification (level 3) or relevant professional qualification, along with experience of working with a range of children and young people, identifying and managing risk, and assessing needs. Applicants should have knowledge of issues for young people affected by family substance use, an understanding of child protection and safeguarding, and understanding of emotional and development issues for children and young people. We are seeking an applicant who can build rapport, positively engage and support young people, as well as having the ability to listen and talk to young people from differing abilities, understanding and backgrounds.
