Epilepsy Fieldworker, Greater Glasgow & Clyde

Every year our Epilepsy Fieldwork Team supports hundreds of people to learn more about their epilepsy and how to manage it, and to live safely and well with what can be a challenging condition. The team works in a person-centred way to support people to identify their epilepsy information and support needs and to develop their self-management skills.

We provide:

  • practical information about understanding and managing epilepsy, seizures and treatment; identifying seizure triggers; lifestyle issues; balancing risk and safety.
  • help to manage epilepsy at home, school or work.
  • support for people to deal with their feelings about living with epilepsy.
  • help with benefits and housing issues.
  • liaison with epilepsy specialist clinics.
  • signposting to appropriate resources and services.

We need an enthusiastic, experienced self-starter to join our Greater Glasgow & Clyde Fieldwork Team. You will work in an advisory capacity with adults and children with epilepsy, including people who have difficult-to-control epilepsy and those who have additional long term and/or disabling conditions, and people who are socially isolated because of epilepsy. This busy, varied and rewarding role also involves providing information and support to families and carers, employers, and health, social care and housing providers.

To succeed in this role, you must have experience of providing information and support in a health or other welfare setting, excellent people skills, and be able to demonstrate your understanding of the impact of living with a long-term condition. If you know about epilepsy, that would be an advantage, but we provide full training and our experienced team is on hand to support you.

In the coming year, the Epilepsy Fieldwork Team will commit significant time and energy to re-engaging with local communities and referrers to help us reach more people with epilepsy and their families. This will involve building relationships with potential new referrers and awareness-raising work with community-based organisations.

To help us reach out to all sections of the community, we particularly welcome applications from speakers of community languages who meet the essential criteria for the post.

As the leading provider of community-based epilepsy support services in the Forth Valley and Greater Glasgow & Clyde areas we offer:

We’re looking for an experienced Fundraising Manager with excellent communication and relationship-building skills to co-ordinate and develop our fundraising work ensuring we can continue to provide and grow the vital services we provide for people with epilepsy.

We have a strong track record in securing funding from statutory sources, trusts and grant-making bodies, and have already secured 75% of the income we’ll need until March 2025. As Fundraising Manager, you will help us increase our income by 25% in the next two years and diversify our income streams in the following years, establishing long-term and sustainable growth.

You will take the lead on identifying and writing funding bids to trusts and foundations, working with the Executive Director, the staff team, and Directors to develop engaging and compelling cases for support. You will manage donor relationships; develop our individual giving, events income activities and digital fundraising initiatives; and work with the Executive Director to further develop and implement our fundraising plan. You will also be involved in bid writing to statutory agencies, including preparing tenders. You will work independently within our committed staff team and will be responsible for internal and external reporting of all fundraising activity.

In return, we offer a competitive salary, hybrid working, 20 days holiday (pro rata) plus 12 Public Holidays per year (pro rata), and professional mentoring.

Community Activities Worker Ayrshire & Arran

Our Epilepsy Fieldworker Heather Davies supports people in Ayrshire and Arran to learn more about their epilepsy and how to manage it, and to live safely and well with what can be a challenging condition. Heather works in a person-centred way to support people to identify their epilepsy information and support needs and to develop their self-management skills.

Heather provides:

• practical information about understanding and managing epilepsy, seizures and treatment; identifying seizure triggers; lifestyle issues; balancing risk and safety.

• help to manage epilepsy at home, school or work.

• support for people to deal with their feelings about living with epilepsy

• help with benefits and housing issues.

• liaison with epilepsy specialist clinics.

• signposting to appropriate resources and services.

Heather also runs information and support groups, where people with epilepsy and their carers can get together to hear from guest speakers and enjoy each others’ company, and a walking group.

To help us reach everyone who needs our support, we’re introducing the role of Community Activities Worker to help Heather organise and run existing support groups, develop new local groups, and help raise awareness of epilepsy in Ayrshire and Arran.

To succeed in this role, you must be friendly and approachable, have great communication skills and empathy, and experience of supporting people. Knowledge of epilepsy would be an advantage but we provide full training.

We need someone who has excellent communication and organisational skills, knows their way around technology and the web, has experience of reception duties, and can design flyers, leaflets and other documents with flair.
