Shetland Women’s Aid is the lead organisation in Shetland working towards the prevention of domestic abuse. We play a vital role offering counselling, advice and support to women, young people and children, in effective responses to domestic abuse. We are part of a network of 36 specialist local Women’s Aid groups working towards a shared vision of a Scotland where domestic abuse is not tolerated.

Independent Domestic Abuse & Court Advocate

We are looking for an enthusiastic, resilient, feminist woman to work as part of an enthusiastic and resolute domestic abuse team. The role will involve delivering specialist, sensitive, trauma-informed, proactive short to medium-term support to women who are at high risk of harm.

This will involve safety planning, refuge and follow-on, housing, legal support, and court advocacy and could include therapeutic well-being work on a one-to-one basis and in group sessions.

You must be highly organised, and proactive, and work using a gendered analysis of domestic abuse. It is also desirable that you drive and have a qualification that allows you to register as a support worker under ‘Housing Support’ with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

The post is part-time, and the successful candidate will be required to work 28 hrs per week in a flexible manner that allows for seamless service provision and meets the needs of a small voluntary organisation.

The salary for this post is £32,405 to £35,250 per annum, pro rata, inclusive of the Distant Islands Allowance.

This post is a fixed term for 2 years but is core to our service provision so ongoing funding will continually be sought.

Shetland Womens Aid is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), Care Inspectorate and The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). The Trustees role is to support the service manager and to shape the charity's strategic direction and oversee the good governance of the organisation.

We are looking for creative, feminist women who may have skills in media, journalism, health and social care, administration, fundraising, business planning, social affairs, housing, access & inclusion, lived experience, human resources or any other relevant experience or skills required within a charity board.

This is an unpaid position. It is an occupational requirement that applications are open to women only, as permitted under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

Prevention Education Coordinator

This is an exciting opportunity to develop awareness raising and progress the violence against women (VAW) agenda in Shetland. The post sits within Shetland Womens Aid and is funded by the Scottish Government until March 2025. Ongoing funding for this post is expected to be successful.

The successful candidate will be directed in her role by the Service Manager, who will provide support and supervision. The post holder will work closely with the Shetland Domestic Abuse Partnership (SDAP) Co-Ordinator and receive peer support from the SDAP co-ordinator and wider team.

This is a feminist organisation, and the post holder will be supported to learn and understand, to grow and develop their sense of self and belonging.

Job Purpose

The Prevention Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, managing, and facilitating the Shetland Women’s Aid primary prevention education programme delivered throughout Shetland high schools and youth service organisations. The role also involves awareness raising through virtual platforms. The coordinator will manage all data, reporting and activity tracking for grant compliance. They will also be available post-delivery of SWA presentations/content for support and appropriate signposting and referral.

This post will manage communications through our social media, newsletter & website, creating engaging and appropriate content and may be involved in producing press releases and interviews in relation to work undertaken.

Access and Inclusion, equalities and helping facilitate communication with our community is also part of the role.

The role will involve delivering specialist, trauma informed support to women who may be at high risk from harm. This will involve safety work, refuge and follow-on, housing and legal support and therapeutic wellbeing work on a one-to-one basis and in group sessions.

You must be highly organised, proactive, and work using a gendered analysis of domestic abuse. It is also desirable that you drive and have a qualification that allows you to register as a support worker in Housing Support with the SSSC.

The successful candidate will:

  • hold a Counselling Skills certificate qualification and/or SVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant field i.e., housing, community justice, health, social care, and social work or be willing to work towards such a qualification.
  • applications are welcome from those with Independent Domestic Abuse Advocacy experience.
  • understand domestic abuse and its surrounding issues using a gendered definition and analysis.
  • be prepared to undertake training to meet current service requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to work 27 hrs per week in a flexible manner that allows for seamless service provision and meets the needs of a small voluntary organisation. The salary for this post is £28,495 to £31,544 pro rata; this includes a Distant Islands Allowance.

Business & Administration Assistant SDAP

This is a new post to support the Shetland Domestic Abuse Partnership (SDAP). The Business & Administrative Assistant is responsible, through the Chair(s) of the SDAP partnership for the provision of clerical and administrative support to the work and activities of the Shetland Domestic Abuse Partnership. The role may involve delivering specialist, trauma informed training and awareness on behalf of SDAP.

We are looking for a creative, flexible, and organised woman to work as part of an enthusiastic and dedicated domestic abuse team. Previous relevant experience within local government and/or women’s sector, report writing, project management experience would be essential.

You must be highly organised, proactive, and work using a gendered analysis of domestic abuse. It is also essential that you drive and have a clean driving license.

The successful candidate will:

• understand domestic abuse and its surrounding issues using a gendered definition and analysis.

• Have qualification(s) in relevant area (e.g., in business & administration, accounting, social work, psychology, social sciences, gender studies or other related fields) or working towards this.

The post is 20 hours a week, and the successful candidate will be required to work in a flexible manner that meets the needs of SDAP. The salary for this post is a grade H £27,468 to £28,607 pro rata; this includes a Distant Islands Allowance.

This post is funded by Delivering Equally Safe and is a fixed term of 2 years with potential to go beyond this time funding permitted. Part of this post may be to participate in ongoing funding for the post.
