VSA is looking for Trustees to join its Board. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a historic charity with a formidable reputation and to help the Board build a long-term plan.
VSA has over 150 years’ experience of delivering social care in Aberdeen, to vulnerable people, adults and older people with learning difficulties and mental health needs. We have grown to be a major employer with an accredited Skills Qualification Centre. VSA has a strong corporate and community volunteering tradition. Today, VSA is of a medium sized company providing education, housing support and social care to young people and adults with complex needs.
We particularly want to hear from people with a medical background, or current skills in the following: charity & company law, complex learning & behavioural education/social care and environmental/social governance.
Key aspects of trustee roles at VSA are as follows:
You will be interested in joining VSA’s Board if you have a personal commitment to supporting vulnerable children, young adults and older people with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs to lead the best of life alongside current practices in the above field.
This role is not remunerated but all reasonable expenses, for example childcare, travel etc will be covered. The time commitment is approx 8 to 10 days per year. This is likely to include attendance at Board or Committee meetings, reading and preparation time, and other meetings such as Strategy or Stakeholder. The Job
Working with the Board of trustees, the CEO is responsible for leading the organisation in the effective development and implementation of strategy closely aligned to our core values and objectives, which will support the delivery of creative solutions that meet the changing needs of our community.
Through effective engagement in the political and socio-economic agenda relating to the future of Health and Social Care, the CEO will ensure that VSA’s interests are represented and that we are at the forefront of influencing the future direction of our sector. Continually horizon scanning and ensuring the organisation’s resilience in a changing environment and ensuring our long-term financial stability and sustainability.
The Person
You will be able to demonstrate experience gained at a senior level of strategic leadership within a multi-functional organisation across multiple fields. Through your career you will have developed the ability to build effective partnerships and to demonstrate influencing capabilities through effective networking and engagement of key stakeholders. Evidence of leading the design and delivery of high qualify, financially effective services for the benefit of service users will be key, as will the ability to effectively lead and implement change.
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to pursue goals and objectives with enthusiasm, as well as the ability to instil the same attitude and passion in others. Emotional awareness and the capacity for self-reflection will be essential.
Aberdeen Association of Social Services (T/A VSA) is currently seeking to appoint a Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager to join our Philanthropy & Income Generation Department on our ambitious journey as we scale up for success. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious individual to take ownership of this pivotal role in support of the strategic aims of the department and VSA.
Working closely with the Director of External Relations you will be responsible for developing relationships with a portfolio of individual and corporate prospects who have the propensity to give high five, six and seven figure gifts with multi-year commitments.
To be successful, you will need to have expertise in corporate and philanthropy fundraising, including evidence of new business and account management successes in generating income. You will need to be a strong relationship builder, with both external and internal stakeholders and have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to tell stories that inspire people to support our work.
We are a small, but agile, team that prides itself on creating an exceptional supporter experience. The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently to manage and prioritise your own workload in order to meet competing deadlines and deliver against annual financial targets.

Aberdeen Association of Social Services (T/A VSA) is currently seeking to appoint a Community Engagement and Supporter Experience Manager to join our Philanthropy & Income Generation Department on our ambitious journey as we scale up for success.
This is a busy and varied role and you will be the main point of contact for supporters raising money in aid of VSA or those who are taking part in VSA led or mass participation events. You will be responsible for growing our unrestricted income across multiple income streams
Reporting directly to the Director of External Relations, the Community Engagement and Supporter Experience Manager will be responsible for supporter led acquisition, maximising donations from individual supporters and the administration and delivery of our supporter experience and events.
To be successful you will need to have expertise in Developing and Managing high quality relationships with fundraisers to cultivate, engage and nurture prospects and existing supporters. In addition, you will need to evidence your ability to create new and appealing fundraising activities, to appeal to and recruit new audiences and supporters.
