Infrastructure Officer, Project Delivery

Sustrans Scotland is seeking to recruit an individual with a passion for place and urban design to join our Infrastructure Team showcase-sustrans.org.uk/about/places-for-everyone

Ideally you will have a background on landscape architecture, urban design, planning, civil engineering, community engagement or behaviour change and experience in managing projects. As part of the team, you will contribute to the delivery of high quality urban realm projects with a focus on people and place across Scotland focused specifically at the northern regions.

Joining Sustrans Scotland as an Infrastructure Officer, you will be part of the Places for Everyone team, who support a range of partners to design and develop inspirational projects that restore the balance of Scotland’s streets in favour of people walking, cycling and wheeling.

We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate individual to become a member of our team in Scotland.

This is an exciting role integral to the delivery of the policy and public affairs plan within Sustrans Scotland’s communications, policy and public affairs strategy the provision of specialist advice on policy areas relevant to our work in Scotland.

Using your experience of developing and implementing policy and public affairs strategies and delivery plans, you will support Sustrans public affairs work which will help influence decision makers, engaging with political parties, civic societies and other key national stakeholders. You will have experience of communicating through all forms of media and of providing specialist advice, briefings and support on relevant policy topics. You will have responded to policy consultations and have experience of developing policy positions. By monitoring contact with MSPs, you will be able to highlight gaps and opportunities and consolidate Sustrans presence at political conferences. You will have the ability to communicate complex policy positions and key research findings and develop productive working relations by effective networking. You will also have a good understanding of the policy and influencing context within which Sustrans works in Scotland and be passionate about sustainable transport.

Senior Communications Officer

We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate individual to become a member of our team in Scotland.

This role is ideal for a passionate person who wants to tell the story of the active and sustainable travel initiatives being delivered by the Behaviour Change team using a variety of marketing channels, media outlets, social media and events, ensuring key influencing and consumer audiences hear the exciting news.

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a communications environment in either marketing, PR or similar and experience of writing / editing content for publications, press releases and website and using social media in a professional environment. With a good understanding of the communications environment including media, digital and marketing, you will lead on the commissioning of promotional photography and video content and be part of the team creating engaging and dynamic content promoting Sustrans behaviour change projects in Scotland. You will also be committed to the ideas of sustainable transport.

Content Officer

As part of the Policy & Communications team, this is an exciting new role and an opportunity for a dynamic communications professional to make their mark. The role will include the creation of engaging video, photographic and written content for the Sustrans website and project microsites which promote sustainable transport, active travel and the wider work of Sustrans Scotland to a range of audiences including supporters, key stakeholders, volunteers and the general public. There will also be social media communication outputs and supporting the organisation of events.

You will have relevant experience of working in either marketing, PR, event management, journalism or similar. You will have a high standard of written and verbal communications skills, and a proven ability to write relevant, engaging content for a variety of audiences. You’ll have experience of writing / editing content for the web. You’ll also be equally confident writing press releases and using social media in a professional environment.

You are a team player, with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others. Your excellent organisational skills and ability to plan, prioritise and manage your own workload will be enhanced by your time management skills. You will have an understanding of marketing and communications principles and excellent IT skills, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. You will also be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport.

Sustrans is looking for an experienced policy professional to help deliver its charitable mission to make it easier for people to walk, cycle and wheel by advising the organisation on the planning system in Scotland, in particular how we can work with the planning system to make active travel easier and to develop a comprehensive active travel network in Scotland.

With experience in a relevant discipline such as public policy, you will have experience of policy initiation, development and delivery as well of engaging with political parties, civic society and key stakeholders at a strategic level. You will have excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships. You will have an excellent understanding of policy and planning context within which Sustrans works in Scotland, including but not limited to developments in the National Planning Framework (NPF4) and the wider National Performance Framework in the country. You will also have excellent IT literacy and research skills and be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport.
