We aim to give very young children (from pre-birth to 11 years) the best possible start. We provide a range of services through six centres and on an outreach basis. We work as a team at grass roots level, delivering a client-led service within the large semi-rural community that we serve.

Development Officer – A Good Start

Midlothian Sure Start is a dynamic, award winning third sector organisation. It offers a quality support service to families with children up to age 12 across Midlothian. Midlothian Sure Start has been in existence since 2001 and employs over 70 members of staff providing a service in Family Learning centres and in the community. Our ethos is to provide a holistic, confidential community based service where families are at the heart of what we do.

We are currently recruiting for the following posts:

Development Officer – A Good Start

Full-time, 35 hours per week, Fixed Term until 31st March 2023

Part-time, 17.5 hours per week, Fixed Term until 31st March 2023

Salary Scale 24-26, £24,699.04 - £26,238.95 + pension

Based at Midlothian Sure Start Head Office, Mayfield, Dalkeith

We are currently recruiting for 2 posts, a full-time and a part-time Development Officer to extend out existing A Good Start services and other perinatal activities from Midlothian and deliver to communities in Prestonpans and Tranent. This will involve recruiting and supporting the training and development of A Good Start volunteers, working collaboratively with Midwives to deliver antenatal programmes and supporting the Perinatal Manager to ensure the consistent and widespread delivery of A Good Start in Mid and East Lothian.

A HNC in Social Care/Dip Social Work/BA Community Education or equivalent is essential.

Midlothian Sure Start’s ‘A Good Start’ programme is a universal early attachment programme for parents and babies aged eight weeks and over. The programme is run over eight weeks with weekly sessions of one and a half to two hours and includes Baby Massage, Baby Brain Development, Play, Community Links and Weaning and received the Evelyn Gillan award for Impact in 2018.

Full-time (Part-time & job share considered) 35 hours per week

Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm (must be available for either 8.00am start or 4.00-6.00pm finish)

Salary Scale 10-15 £17,760.83 - £19,696.91 + pension

Based within Midlothian Sure Start across or within one of our 6 centres

We are currently recruiting for various early years posts across our 6 Family Learning Centres. The role is to support and assist in the day-to-day running of the Playroom, creating a welcoming environment for parents and children and contributing to each child’s self development and level of autonomy.

A qualification in childcare or working towards one and a child protection certificate or commitment to undertake one is essential as is experience of working with young children. An understanding of the difficulties experienced by vulnerable families and good interpersonal and communication skills are also required.
