We are currently looking for a Cook / Housekeeper (Homemaker) to join our talented Catering and Domestic Team to prepare both lunches and evening meals as well as undertake some general domestic duties.

Homemakers are required to have an ability to produce consistently excellent and nutritional meals for our children. You will understand the central role that outstanding food preparation has on creating a homely environment within the residential cottage. You will be required to undertake some domestic duties and ensure a high standard of cleanliness. This is a permanent, part-time post (32.5 hours per week).

A qualification in cooking is highly desirable, however training may be provided for the right candidate.

We work with children of primary up to early secondary stage, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis. Harmeny is situated in a beautiful thirty-five-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children’s play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills and is easily accessible by bus and there is on-site parking.

Opportunities exist for 2 Night Awake Workers to join our dedicated Night Awake Team on a permanent, part-time basis (‘4 shifts on, 12 shifts off’).

As a Night Awake Worker, you will work alongside the Residential Child Care Staff to ensure the safety and comfort of the children during the night hours. The post also involves undertaking general housekeeping duties as required. Night Awake Workers work from 10.15 pm until 7.45 am on a rota basis throughout the year. The 2 rota patterns are: ‘6 shifts on, 10 off’ or ‘4 shifts on, 12 off’.

Harmeny Education Trust is a sector leading children’s charity, providing therapeutic care and education for children who have experienced trauma in their early years, referred from all over Scotland. As a Grant Aided Special School, we work with children aged 5 to 14, both on a day and all year round residential basis.

The Trust has reached a point where there is real opportunity for growth, including the development of a continuing care service for young people already placed at Harmeny, from the age of 15 to 25, as well as residential-only services for children aged 5 to 14.

We are seeking a highly professional, enthusiastic Project Researcher to scope out a sustainable practice model for the delivery of these new services. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, the postholder will collate and analyse data, consult with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and produce a detailed proposal for consideration by the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees.

The successful applicant will have a professional qualification in the field of care, education or social science discipline, proven research or practice management experience, and excellent networking and communication skills. This is an exciting opportunity to support the strategic development of the Trust, and make a real difference in the lives of some of Scotland’s most vulnerable, yet remarkable, children.

Whilst the post will initially be on a fixed term (6 month) basis, there is the possibility of extension for project implementation.

Sessional SVQ Assessors

Harmeny SQA Centre is a leading provider of quality training for Residential and Social Services sectors across Scotland. The centre is self-funded and continually receives excellent reports from the quality team at SQA. Based in the grounds of Harmeny School, we are able to offer a suite of qualifications, to individuals and external organisations, including:

  • HNC Social Services
  • SVQ Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF levels 6, 7 and 9
  • SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF levels 6, 7 and 9
  • PDA Assessor and Verifier Awards
  • PDA Health and Social Care Supervision

Currently opportunities exist for fully qualified SVQ Assessors with experience in the health and social care sector to join our SQA Centre on a sessional basis, providing flexibility to individuals.

The ideal candidates will have relevant experience of residential and/or social services, strong communication skills, both written and oral, the ability to manage own workload effectively and the ability to travel to various locations across Scotland. A flexible approach to hours will be required with these roles, in line with business requirements.

Candidates must hold a relevant assessor qualification such as A1, D32/ D33, or L&D9DI, and be educated to HNC/SVQ at SCQF Level 7 or equivalent OR SCQF Level 9 in Social Services or equivalent.

An excellent benefits package is offered along with the following hourly rate £15 (Full Time Equivalent of £27,300 per annum).
