We’re looking for an enthusiastic and friendly new full-time Growth & Development Worker. The core function of this new role is to identify opportunities to grow guiding and support local volunteers to open new and expand existing Girlguiding units for girls in areas where there’s a demand.
Working in partnership with local volunteers and other stakeholders across Edinburgh and Fife, the successful post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering growth plans which result in 150 new spaces being created over an 18-month period. The post holder will also be expected to respond to requests for support from across the Girlguiding Scotland network.
The core function of this role is to identify opportunities to establish and expand guiding opportunities for girls ages 10+ in areas of deprivation and/or where there is an increased risk of girls being impacted by crime or antisocial behaviour. The role is funded through the Scottish Government’s Generation CashBack project and the successful candidate will be required to contribute to targets associated with this Scotland-wide project. During the period of the contract, the post-holder will be expected to:
In year 1 support volunteers in target areas to: expand existing or open new Guide or Ranger units so that at least 50 girls have the opportunity to join or stay in guiding
Promote CashBack Grow funding and support volunteers to access these monies so that existing young members of Guide and Ranger age in target areas can benefit from increased opportunities
Share the work of the project using social media (in line with Girlguiding policies) to contribute to communications targets
We are looking for an individual with an enthusiastic and positive outlook. In this role you will be representing Girlguiding Scotland to a wide range of stakeholders including potential members, potential volunteers, other community groups and voluntary sector organisations. You will need to be well presented, articulate, diplomatic and approachable, with the ability to build good relationships quickly with a wide range of people.
In partnership with the Chair of the Business Management and Finance committee and Honorary Treasurer to ensure there is sound governance of the organisation’s assets and compliance with all relevant external regulations.
The scope of this role includes finance, insurance, investments, risk, as well as support to the CEO with IT and HR.
Prepare annual budgets and financial statements in accordance with the Charities SORP and liaise with the auditors to produce compliant year-end statutory accounts.
Working in partnership with the Chair of Business Management and Finance (BM&F) Committee, ensure the quarterly meetings are prepared, convened and conducted according to the terms of reference for the committee.
Provide guidance on good practice in managing projects with significant capital expenditure across the organisation
Provide triage and signposting advice for counties in relation to finance, property and charity compliance.
Work with retail operations manager to achieve net annual contribution to funds in line with targets agreed by trustees.
Support Girlguiding Scotland staff and volunteers with information to help access external funding.
Provide financial information as part of grant reporting routines to funders e.g. Scottish Government and other Trusts.
Regularly review and advise on criteria, supporting materials and internal marketing of Girlguiding Scotland funds.
Provide an external interface with the bank, auditors, investment manager, insurance broker, OSCR and other external advisers as necessary.
Handle the annual renewal of Girlguiding Scotland’s insurance arrangements and the processing of any claims that may arise.
Monitor the cash flow and the investment portfolio to achieve the best return on Girlguiding Scotland’s assets. Working with the Chair of BM&F Committee and the Honorary Treasurer instruct the investment managers in line with the investment policy.
Work with the Chief Executive to ensure the organisation has comprehensive and up to date plans that identify major risks with actions to mitigate them and to ensure there is a robust plan in place for action to be taken in the event of a business /building crisis.
Health and Safety
Take the lead role for the senior management team in ensuring compliance with best practice in health and safety and convene a staff forum to share this responsibility across all teams.
Be the nominated data protection officer for Girlguiding Scotland ensuring best practice is adhered to and breaches are reported as required.
Work with CEO to ensure effective arrangements are in place that are fit for purpose and compliant.
Work with CEO to ensure third party IT support is in place and that the organisation evolves its practise to make best use of digital ways of work.
