Engender is Scotland’s feminist policy and advocacy organisation, working to increase women’s social, political and economic equality, enable women's rights, and make visible the impact of sexism on women and wider society. Job Purpose

The ED is the most senior role at Engender and represents the organisation with dynamism and a high degree of professionalism. The ED is a passionate advocate for women's rights and equality in Scotland and beyond as part of a global intersectional feminist movement.

The ED has overall responsibility for Engender’s strategic direction and policy development, working closely with the Board and staff team, providing leadership, vision, and sound financial management. The ED is an ambassador for Engender and ensures a high public profile for the organisation externally, building and maintaining excellent relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and driving the development of programmes and fundraising.

Policy Lead (Delivering Equally Safe)

Engender, Scotland’s feminist policy and advocacy organisation is seeking a Policy Lead for an 18-month post to analyse policies that enable men’s violence and to develop appropriate policy solutions and a Theory of Change for primary prevention of violence against women.

This work will contribute to the delivery of Equally Safe (Scotland’s strategy for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls) by integrating primary prevention in policy development and will develop an approach to policy development that includes attending to primary prevention of men’s violence expressed in a Theory of Change.

Main duties

  • Desk-based research;
  • Literature and evidence review;
  • Policy analysis;
  • Stakeholder engagement;
  • Development of a Theory of Change and policy solutions.

Specific duties:

  • Project coordination and provide progress reports;
  • Establish and develop relationships with stakeholders in the field of primary prevention of men’s violence;

  • Regular communication with project partners, Rape Crisis Scotland and Scottish Women’s Aid;

Engender, Scotland’s feminist policy and advocacy organisation is seeking a Policy Officer for a 16-month post. This role will focus on an analysis of available evidence on primary prevention of different forms of men’s violence. This will include forming an expert group on primary prevention, an evidence-based review of drivers and enablers of men’s violence and international approaches to primary prevention, alongside evidence-gathering from policymakers with domain-specific knowledge.

The Policy Officer will work with colleagues to develop proposals for public policy solutions that work to disrupt men’s violence before it takes place.

About the role:

In this role you will deliver Engender’s strategic engagement with the Scottish Parliament and Government. You will regularly meet with stakeholders including Scottish Government Ministers, Members of the Scottish Parliament, and other officials to advocate for policies that advance intersectional gender equality and ensure that women’s experiences are reflected in policy making. You will play a vital role in the development of Engender’s external positions, undertaking analysis of public policy, research, and producing high quality written materials, as well as collaborating with colleagues to engage diverse communities of women and amplify critical issues around women’s equality in Scotland.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated to advocate for change on gender equality in Scotland, who can build and develop relationships with diverse stakeholders and who can represent and communicate issues in a wide range of spaces. Working knowledge of the Scottish political context is a must, as well as confidence in researching, collating, and presenting information, a clear writing style, and the ability to collaborate as part of a team.

Purpose:

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring Engender’s work is effectively communicated in innovative and accessible ways to our key audiences – diverse communities of women, women’s and equalities organisations, the media, government and wider civil society.

You will work to actively engage our key audiences, particularly diverse groups of women, in Engender’s work to advance intersectional gender equality, women’s rights and feminist policy making.

• Extending and maintaining effective communications between Engender and other women’s and equalities organisations, through interaction, shared campaigns and social media

This role will be responsible for delivering a creative, engaging communications approach and content for a project that sits within Engender. The Equal Media and Culture Centre (EMCC) will focus on gender equality within Scotland’s media and cultural landscape. It will research and monitor issues of equal representation, inclusion, gender stereotyping and women’s right to cultural participation. It will also involve collaboration between researchers, the women’s sector, and leaders and creators from the media and cultural industries.

The post will be responsible for ensuring that our media and culture work is effectively communicated in innovative and accessible ways to our key audiences – diverse communities of women, women’s and equalities organisations, the media, government and wider civil society.

The role will actively engage our key audiences and partners, particularly diverse groups of women, in Engender’s work to advance intersectional gender equality in the media, creative and cultural sectors in Scotland.
