Cyrenians’ vision is of an inclusive society in which we all have the opportunities to live valued and fulfilling lives. We work to make that vision a reality through a wide range of services aimed at tackling the causes and consequences of home-lessness and through working with stakeholders across Scotland who can help us achieve this vision. Last year we supported over 11,600 people in their time of need, welcoming a further 13,000 people to Cyrenians services, events and train-ing courses. Over 900 volunteers generously gifted a total of 76, 673 hours of their time, knowledge, support and experience to us across our organisation.

An opportunity has arisen within Cyrenians Communities for a skilled people person with strong organisational skills to oversee our volunteer recruitment and development processes.

About the Communities

Our communities are at the heart of what we do; directly supporting individuals with experience of homelessness.

Our unique approach integrates residential/day volunteers alongside our residents, offering a peer-support model. Volunteers live as community members acting as mentors and are fundamental to the unique service we provide.

About the role

This role is designed to keep our volunteer model running smoothly and attract new volunteers. With support from the Administrator, you will oversee the recruitment process, liaise with a range of stakeholders including: potential volunteers, sending organisations, visa sponsorship organisations, funders, and more.

You will also ensure that the volunteers have an effective induction, and receive support and training during their placements with us. These volunteers provide vital dedicated support to our service and this role is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our model.

About you

You will possess the skills to market the Communities to potential new volunteers, as well as bring fresh and interesting ideas for developing the volunteer model further. You will have experience in recruitment, and a knowledge of volunteer development. You will also have strong communication skills, be able to deal with competing demands and the ability to demonstrate Cyrenians values in the work that you do.

How we’ll support you

We’ll encourage you to be creative and innovative, to get the best out of existing systems and implement new initiatives.

You’ll work with an experienced part-time Administrator, the wider communities’ staff team and have a supportive manager. You’ll also have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.

Falkirk Outreach Worker

Cyrenians offers a variety of support to people within the Falkirk area to address the barriers they face to accessing services, employment, volunteering opportunities, as well as tackling social isolation.

This new role will work with individuals involved in Justice Services and subject to Community Supervision, to help them reintegrate into the community. You will help them understand and adhere to the conditions of their licence or order. You will also provide support and advice on budgeting, employment, daily living skills and physical and mental wellbeing. This will include weekend working as part of a new drive by Falkirk Services to provide flexible support.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a flexible approach and experience of working with people on an outreach basis - including home visits and one-to-one appointments. Employability Trainer (casual work)

Cyrenians Employability Service in Falkirk supports people to gain the skills and experience to move towards employment, further education, training or volunteering. We support clients to overcome the barriers that have prevented them from moving forward, and empower them to make informed decisions and grow in confidence/self-esteem.

We offer SQA units that incorporate personal development and accredited core skills qualifications. These are interactive workshops run virtually or face-to-face at our Falkirk premises.

We are looking for sessional staff to join our Employability Team to deliver these workshops (4 to 8 weeks). You should be confident and well organised, with an awareness and understanding of some of the challenges faced by those furthest removed from the labour market. You will have experience of working in the employability sector in a group work setting; and be able to plan and facilitate workshops with a flexible and creative approach. Community Gardener

The Walled Garden is around a half acre of ground within Dollar Park, Falkirk.

Falkirk Justice Services renovated the walled garden after it fell into disrepair and Cyrenians assumed responsibility for the day to day management of the garden in August 2015. The aim of the garden is to manage a programme of maintenance and development for those on community payback orders to participate in, and to bring back into use a beautiful space that is open to public.

The post holder will be responsible for the support and management of people on community payback orders and the engagement of volunteers to ensure that we meet these aims. This is a new post to support the Garden Coordinator and existing Community Gardener and expand the garden to 7-day delivery.

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic individual with a “can do” attitude and a genuine interest in gardens and working outdoors. Knowledge of the Justice system is desirable and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to motivate and inspire participants to get the most out of the opportunities that the garden presents. Social Enterprise Coordinator

Cyrenians believes that the coming years are going to be very challenging, not least in the current economic climate but also as we start to emerge from the Covid 19 pandemic. Key Worker, Key to Potential (part time)

Cyrenians Key to Potential service provides holistic, person-centred support, to help young people coming up to school leaving age to progress into further education, training, or secure employment. This new post is an extension to the Key to Potential project, in response to increasing demand.

Using an outreach approach, the post holder will provide key work, careers guidance and tailored support to young people identified by their school as at risk of leaving without a positive destination, likely to be struggling to engage with mainstream curriculum and have experienced disrupted attendance.

The role will also be involved in the Game On Project, a new personal skills and development programme aimed at care-experienced young people and built around the attraction of football - the game and the business. The post holder will support participants to progress from the programme towards realising their full potential.

You should be experienced in working with vulnerable young people (14-24 years old), have the ability to build excellent working relationships; and be positive, creative and flexible in delivering support. Employability Support Worker – Redundancy Support

Cyrenians’ Foundations project provides holistic, person-centred support, to help people facing a range of barriers which prevent them returning to work. Cyrenians Social Enterprise Employability Programme supports people to gain the skills and experience to move towards employment, further education, training or volunteering. Many of the people we work with have had poor educational experiences and attainment, and may face additional barriers in accessing employment such as lack of basic education and the limitations of the benefit system. Our response to this has been to incorporate learning opportunities into our existing provision, providing a more accessible route back into positive destinations for those most disadvantaged.

We are looking for an innovative, dynamic person who will support the growth of the Employability Programme in all four of our Social Enterprises; FareShare, Food Education (and Production), Farm and Arnotdale House (Falkirk). This role involves key work support for residents and volunteers, delivering group work, and liaising with referring agencies. Alongside these, you will work to ensure that Cyrenians Community model is adhered to and developed; and that the quality of service remains high.

The Walled Garden is around a half acre of ground within Dollar Park, Falkirk.

Falkirk Justice Services renovated the walled garden after it fell into disrepair and Cyrenians assumed responsibility for the day to day management of the garden in August 2015. The aim of the garden is to manage a programme of maintenance, growing and planting projects and development for those on community payback orders to participate in, and to bring back into use a beautiful space that is open to public.

The post holder will support and supervise people on community payback orders and volunteers to ensure that we meet these aims. The role will complement the Garden Coordinator and existing Community Gardener to ensure that there is staff cover for the garden to operate 7-days a week. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to utilise their gardening and people skills in a lovely environment and share their skills with others.

We are looking for individuals with a “can do” attitude and a genuine interest in gardens and working outdoors. Knowledge of the Justice system is desirable and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to motivate and inspire participants to get the most out of the opportunities that the garden presents. The project helps build relationships, promotes better communication, and reduces the potential for future conflict.

Providing a home for up to 16 people affected by homelessness, the Village was founded by Social Bite who partnered with Cyrenians to provide the on-site housing support. Cyrenians pioneered community living over 50 years ago and our model and values-led ethos is still relevant today.

Green Activity Coordinator

Cyrenians has worked with NHS Lothian to establish two hospital community gardens: one in Morningside, Edinburgh and one in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian.

Each garden was developed to offer hospital patients, staff and visitors, as well as people and groups from the local community, the chance to take part in a range of gardening and nature-based activities.

We are looking for a Green Activity Coordinator to lead on and develop our new programmes of outdoor therapeutic activities, working with people in the community experiencing poor mental health.

Central to the role will be a passion for the healing benefits of being outdoors and supporting people to experience this for themselves. Creativity, flexibility and the ability to respond to the changing needs of participants will inform programme design and how you evaluate the programme and tell people’s stories. About the role

As Garden Coordinator you’ll contribute to designing and managing a creative and interactive garden and programme for those engaging with our services. Our partner Eildon Housing Association, offers extra care and sheltered housing with care and support services to help older people live independently and with dignity in self-contained accommodation across their local Borders communities.

Cyrenians is in the process of signing a three-year lease with Sight Scotland to manage and develop the walled garden at Linburn, West Lothian. The site is 5,000 square meters and already grows a variety of herbs, wild garlic, orchids and vegetables. The garden is well positioned and in an accessible location close to Cyrenians’ farm, Sight Scotland Linburn Centre, the Military Museum Scotland and Wilkieston Legion Hall. This site offers great potential for further development as we look to expand on our seasonal growing and a range of wellbeing nature-based activities. Cyrenians are the lead partner in Live Life which is a partnership working together to help veterans and their families and carers with their mental and physical health.

About the role

We are looking for a flexible and inspiring Garden & Volunteer Wellbeing Coordinator to come and be part of an exciting community walled garden project. You will have experience of supporting staff and volunteers and be able to assist with the project management of the ongoing development of the garden. Helping ensure that the development of the garden is completed within the seasonal timescale. This is initially a 18-month position with a high possibility of extension as we look to develop the space for health and wellbeing activities.

Creative Natives is an art-based project that uses creativity to promote positive mental health and wellbeing with young people aged 12-24 in a safe, support Creative Studio. This includes those who have disengaged from school and need additional support, and those who have left school with no positive destination.

Many of our attendees have experienced poor mental health due to a number of factors including neurodiversity, gender identity, social anxiety and exclusion, often aggravated by social isolation caused by the pandemic.

We will also work with colleagues in client/patient facing roles to help them access vital support for the older people they support.

The Edinburgh Community Resilience Programme will fund this work delivered in partnership with QMU, making positive futures a reality.

• Building trusted relationships with older people, providing one-to-one holistic case work in their home environment including income maximisation, housing needs awareness, access to health and well-being services, re-connecting with local community.

• Learning of their needs, interests, the challenges they face, and what matters most to them.

• Engaging and creating partnerships with the wider community (residents, other professionals, volunteers, business owners, etc.)

· Working in close partnership with Queen Margaret University researchers to support the research processes.

You will support families who are affected by imprisonment by being their emotional and practical support when required.

You will also help and support children and young people during their family bonding visits.

About you

This is a great opportunity for someone who is committed to working with families to support meaningful contact with their loved one throughout a period of imprisonment. You should be approachable, and work in a trauma informed way during each interaction with those who visit. You should be innovative in your approach to everyday working; as well being as a good communicator with strong listening skills. Family relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of youth homelessness.

We work with young people and families experiencing conflict which is affecting their relationships and lives, including providing mediation and activities. We also provide free training and events which support professionals to better understand conflict, emotional needs and relationships.

About the role

The Emotional Health and Wellbeing Lead is a new post created to ensure that we are able to continue to evolve our work and extend our reach. The postholder will be responsible for taking forward our work with children and young people within Cyrenians’ Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR). The role will deliver on our earlier intervention strategy to tackle youth homelessness and our work to transform the emotional and human cost of conflict.

The Community Links Worker programme aims to support people to live well by strengthening connections between community resources and primary care.
